The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

Never get tired of pics of baby chicks, and that is a better picture than you usually turn out Fred. ha

I finally finished the entire thread. This has been the most educational thread I have seen on BYC and it inspired me to become a member. Reading form the beginning has kept me filled with excitement and extreme sadness. I was trying to decide on the chickens I wanted to start my farm and could not decide until I read a lot of what Bob Blosl had written. He has inspired me to go with standard Rhode Island Reds for my farm. I know he would be very proud to see that his passion for true bred poultry is being carried on and inspiring hundreds. Some of you have been here since the beginning and I have learned so much from you. Keep this thread going for those of us that are RIR "ignorant", Many thanks.

So jealous here Fred.... I'm only getting one egg right now from one of the oldest pullets. Oh to have enough to hatch right now!! ;) Looks like you are up and running with the years hatching!!

Bigbie is looking really good right now!! He has two full blooded sons. Will try and get photos for you soon.

Egg is very cold by the time I get out there to collect it. She lays sometime between 8 am and 10. Wish I could catch her getting off the egg. But I'd rather have more eggs before I attempt to incubate them given my success rate last year!!

Matt, I still am looking for a cockerel for some of my girls. I hope you bring me a boy to the Lake City show (hint, hint)

Well if you were closer and had the same line I do I'd share a cockerel with you. I have three Nelsons now but only 6 Nelson pullets/hens so I have not weeded out the White Rock or Kittle hens yet. Didn't want them over taxed!

Trying to convince the Preachers daughter that just got married and stated interest in having chickens to take them. Then I'll have to trade one of the upcoming cockerels to my partner. I have a year or two before I really get this breeding going securely to have some great ones to choose from.

The chicks were hatched by the kids down at the farm in KY. No setting here yet, sigh. We've far too much harsh winter yet, as you very well know. This week promises to be simply dreadful.

Anytime you want to move out a young K or two, just let me know. I'll be needing a good one. Take care and stay well.

Hey Matt1616, just had to let you know that I really did get a surprise yesterday. I have 5 of my young pullets in one pen (hatched 5/25 - 6/1/14) and don't you know that I got 4 eggs from those 5 girls yesterday. That's right at 7 months.

Very nice Fred. Are these the Nelson's?

I wish Jimmy, but it will be March before Nanny and I get to hatching any Nelsons up here, I reckon. Top photo are Fogle based birds we have down there. Second photo are the ongoing work on the Horstman/Kittle based birds.
