The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

I agree the one one the branch does seem to have thick leg compared to the others and if ya look closely it appears to have a broader square back compared to the others but It had to tell as I can't see thae tail feathers.

Most of my young cockerels around that age and size don't have their tail feathers. lol  The pullets always seem to develop their tails quicker. Mine are 12 weeks old right now and still most of them have tail feathers. (Cockerels)  Check out the pictures I posted about a week ago and you'll see what I'm talking about.

oh yeah i get ya i forgot about that my roo didnt even start to get a simple look of a cockerel tail feathers until he was 5 months old and then shed them again and growing darker green tail feathers at 7 months old you are right they are still to young on the tail feathered end lol but ya birds are still great looking.

It does look like a cockerel. Are you sure it was from heritage lines? He has the rusty red color and appears to have the small frame of a production red.

Actually I was thinking the same thing. Here are some pictures of my birds descendants of the Reese line.
Also check out Jim's website he has some awesome photos and information on the different Heritage RIR lines. http://jimspetsandpoultry.weebly.com
I Raise Rhode Island Reds and Rhode Island Whites. These are some from this years hatch.

I have both Rose Comb and Single Comb Rhode Island Whites. This is a grow-out coop and pen.

I had a canopy in for shade but the wind has pretty much destroyed it but for now it will give them some shade.

Actually I have no idea if they are heritage or not. I was told they are RIR. They are pretty that's all I know. I would love to raise true breeds though.

There are some BYC members that have pure RIR's that live up in PA, and NY areas. Maybe on this thread one of them will contact you.

as of right this minute I can't do anymore. I have 18 and 2 on the way. Come spring after I have enlarged the coop , or maybe just add a 2nd coop , I will be looking to grow my flock size with some heritage breeds. No RIR , BA or WL though. I have some of those. Something colorful and neat to look at, maybe on the list of one's that need brought back.

It is best to get on a breeder's hatching list, otherwise you may need to wait another year after next Spring.
