Thankyou for the loan of that turner Fred! It is really putting my schedule at ease.... got a couple errands run after the food distribution volunteering without having to run home to turn the eggs first :)!

A couple of the first hatch do seem to have the wide to the rear :rolleyes:blocky body we want!! Some are already putting out wing feather shafts. At least one though I see the growth isn't even so I suspect at least one will be a reject.

Some pics of the 5 week olds. The one in the front of the other in all the pics has nice dark color, the one behind has a nice brick shape. They had 6 pullets, these ones had the nicest markings and show potential. I think it is going to be fun to see how these 2 mature. They come from Toni Candea's birds. She had to sell due to personal reasons, so her flock went to a friend of hers that just so happens to be a part of my local poultry fanciers association. She doesn't show, but appreciates quality birds over hatchery stock. She has a Toni rooster over 7 hens. 3 of the hens are Toni's, the other 4 are hatchery grade. You could tell which ones came from Toni's birds and which ones came from the hatchery ones as soon as you looked in the brooder. Even at 5 weeks, the Toni birds had darker color and deeper chest floors. The breeding hens were missing a couple feathers from the Rooster, but aside from that, looked very nice. Nice brick shape, color, full tails, yellow feet, and nice and fluffy.
Not sure how relevant this is but I wanted to clarify that Toni has not sold her flock of birds. She kept her breeders and cut down on extras. I don't see Toni ever getting out of chickens. Her girls have a true passion for exhibition poultry and I'm sure will be in it for a long time. Matt

My last hatch for the season is over. I am really mad at myself. One of the hatchers temperature went up to 115ºF and I don't know how long it was like that but the eggs in it didn't hatch. I still have a lot that did hatch in the other hatchers.

OMG... so sorry to hear that. I know you were hoping to end the season on a good note. Hope you have enough hatched to get through.

Things aren't going too smoky on my end, either. I knew the eggs had endured a rough journey in the mail, but didn't know how rough until last night. I did my day 7 candle last night, and pulled 14 eggs. A few clears, the 2 with cracks didn't make it, and a ton of blood rings. Temp and humidity have remained spot on, so I don't think there's anything more I could do to change the outcome. I have 4 in the bator that are iffy, so it looks like I'm on track to maybe a dozen chicks. Even so, with the 11 I currently have, I should have a decent selection for spring breeding. It's a "start"...

I decided to put some eggs in the incubator from another nice male I have. I'm anxious to see the chicks from Skipper. I put some nice females in with him. We built a new coop and renovated the Leghorn's coop.

Sorry if I was vague. I meant that she had to sell some of her birds due to personal reasons. I know she still has some birds, the woman i bought these ones from is friends with her, and lives close to her. Im not going to go into detail here, but as you might know, she had to get rid of a lot of her birds. I would imagine after all the work that she put in she wouldn't get out of it entirely. The birds that were the parent stock to these two birds consisted of a trio of her show birds, probably offspring to the breeders she still has.
