I think it is a combination of things. Closer shipping can have more time bouncing in a truck. Where I live, eggs that are far enough to be sent by air seem to do better. They travel from the shipper to the air port, land in Sacramento and then go by truck 12 miles to West Sacramento. Then they go 15 miles back up to Woodland. The ones that do the worst for me are the ones from Washington State. They go hundreds of miles in the truck. Some of the SG Dorking eggs I tried to hatch started stinking.
The eggs from Dick were smashed by the post Office. They were a wet mess and I am happy and surprised that any of them hatched. The one that did hatch is extremely healthy. I am sad that none of the Partridge Rocks made it. I put one into lockdown, but it was a no go.
Bye,
