The Heritage Rhode Island Red Site

The foundation lines of these birds consist of the Reese, Swanson and Rademacher lines.

Mr. Kittles line I thought he told me he had to cross three different lines to get his line going. The best I can tell he got into these a few years ago. He has advertised in the Poutlry Press that he had eggs for sale.

His father and I can not remember his name right now as I dont have any old R I Red Chronicles was a very good breeder in the 1950s and 60s.

When his father retired or got to old to raise them they died out. If they where still pure he would have never crossed the Swanson, Rademacher and Reese lines into them.

Thats why I dont rate his strain like the others you got to breed them for 20 years to have any consistent color and type.

I just got back from Matt 1616 farm. I saw some killer females two from the Illinois line one from the Florida line and many others that are still to young and not feathered yet. He had three Illinois Males about 7 months old they looked like the three males I started with nearly 30 years ago from Mr. Reese. His males have better combs than mine did when I got rid of them. The half and half birds look very well. Saw two nice females and two females that I am raising number 34 and 44 are excellent. These two females brought the length of body from the Florida line and the dark blood red quill color. Very enjoyable visit and nice to handle the old Mohawk line in South Alabama. Matt has done a great job with these birds.

Say some nice white silkies two two where killers.

Below is the German N H, Mohawk R I Reds and Silkies as well as a nice Buff Orpington Cock bird. Many will look nice in two months just need more time to get the feathers on.

My oh my! That's a nice looking Red --Bob.

I haven't ever seen any of the Mohawk strain in person but, like the Rademacher and Don Nelson lines that I and a friend have.

In the top picture I it looks like their may be a Show Girl in with the Silkies or maybe just molting.

Hi i have this rooster and i was wondering what breed he is I have thought maby RIR?
Below:he's a bit camera shy!!

I have on e like that from Ideal I often have wondered my self his genetic make up too i say its some where between a Pro-red and hatchery type New Hampshire, the factory will sometimes cross breed their strains of RiR xNH or vice versa and call them their own name brand xxx or so and so #**# to make production type brown egg-layers which works very well it is the same as making a hybrid sex link with the exception of being able to sex them at hatch by differences in down color but you still get the same heterosis (hybrid vigor) effect from the crossbreeding of two different breeds.

I will be using my male like this over some of my light colored production reds this winter and will have me a big ol passel of strawberry-eggers to go along with my cherry-eggers that I sell every spring to those people wanting some of those awesome egg-laying reds that lays those big ol brown eggs everyday, to them anything that is remotely red is a RIR as we well know, but hey whatever, it pays the feed bill for a month or 3 and they are happy which makes me happier'n a pig in a slop bucket. LOL
