“I suppose” Fred nodded“Cuts that could easily get infected,” Cam said.
Blair wasn't going to let him get a reaction. She hardly paid mind to him, as best she could, her gaze focused behind him. That was, of course, until he tripped over his own feet. She was so close to stopping and making sure he was okay, but then the part of her that just needed to win told her to keep going. He's fine. It's a grass hill, you idiot. She heard the wolf mutter, and finally she stopped when she reached the back of the group, which was actually only a little bit away from where he had fallen.Take kept his breathing steady, completely focused on the distance he had to break. As he was coming up on Blair, he cracked a smile, noticing her momentum was slowing. He was capable of keeping a consistent speed after all those years of running for his school. If only him and school ever got along, he may have finished it. Soon he whisked past her, and riskily started to run backwards. He wiggled his eyebrows at her, trying to get a reaction out of her before he suddenly stepped on himself. His arms swung, eyes widening “Oh sh-” he yelled out before meeting his demise.
Take was already getting back on his feet when she came to check on him. “Yeah, I’m fine.. I probably deserved that” he panted, appearing a little sullen from his defeat. He wasn’t going to allow himself be a sore loser, and just grinned at what she accomplished “You did good, not-so slowpoke” knowing full well there were bound to be more races in the future—more chances for him to win. When they rejoined the group, Take noticed Nat carrying Noah on her back. It gave him an idea and glanced back at the out of breath Blair. “You want a ride?” he asked, giving a thumb over his shoulder. It had been a while since he’d given her last piggyback, and he figured she might need it.Blair wasn't going to let him get a reaction. Panting heavily, she turned back to him, carefully making her way back down. "Are you okay?"
"You kind of did," Blair said teasingly, grinning. She followed behind him, still out of breath. Excerting that much energy at once probably wasn't the greatest option, but it was fun nonetheless. When they rejoined the group, she sought out Emma, glad that the little girl was clinging to Aria's side instead of running off.Take was already getting back on his feet when she came to check on him. “Yeah, I’m fine.. Take nodded, “Yeah I’m sure” he confirmed sharply, already lowering himself to the ground. He remembered the first time he’d ever given her a piggy back ride, back in the bug-infested castle. Carrying her up the long narrow stairs when her leg was injured by the decomposing wolf. Now it was different, way different. When she was situated, he rose, keeping a firm grasp on her and got moving."You kind of did," Blair said teasingly, grinning. She followed behind him, still out of breath. At Take's offer, she looked at him quickly, her eyes lighting up. Being carried didnt sound all to bad, since her legs were killing her from the past few days. "Really? Are you sure?"
“Much” Fred smiled
“Oh, that’s good,” Cam said, not sure what else to say.
It was good. Cam had felt quite worried about the eleven-year-old (that’s what she thinks he is, anyways) the night before, in the thirty seconds of time she had to worry about him. He acted like an adult, but he really was as much as a kid as the ones they had rescued. Okay, that didn’t give him enough credit. He was not much younger than her, but it still seemed like half-a-decade. And she didn’t feel mature enough for this undertaking either.
Still, he seemed to be putting on a brave face and often cracked under the pressure. How was he even now?
“I was worried about you,” Cam added, so her comment didn’t seem empty.
Fred cocked his head “really? I’m not sure what the big deal was, I mean my back had a couple of cuts”
“Cuts that could easily get infected,” Cam said.
“I suppose” Fred nodded
I bet Kevin feels like a tool, being the only healer, Cam thought. She was also pretty scared of Kevin. He was big and intimidating, and grumpy all the time. She knew Fred should probably be healed, but she didn’t want to ask Kevin. She didn’t say anything.Kipp smiled to himself glad they were talking, not having to be the one to hold the conversation was nice.
His calm contentedness was interrupted by Fred dismissing how hurt he'd been. The only reason he bit back a harsh comment being that Cam spoke first, her voice gentle an calm. He pursed his lips frowning at the knee high grass they were walking though, and fighting the urge to cross his arms over his chest. He'd only just fixed the last thing, he didn't need to start something new.
"I wonder if Kevin is feeling up to healing more people now... Though I don't really know him that well... And I doubt he's impressed with me tossing you in his lap last night."
Once Blair was situated, she rested her arms over his shoulders, still keeping an eye on Emma. She remembered the last time he had carried her, her heart had been racing and it wasn't because of the steep, narrow stairway that they had climbed. Now, it wasn't. It was different, drastically different then it had been, and a small smile pulled at her lips at the thought.Take nodded, “Yeah I’m sure” he confirmed sharply, already lowering himself to the ground. Alex ran after them, giggling and shouting madly.
Nat made a mental note of Noah’s lowering comfort level and slowed accordingly. “Alright—“ After quieting to make sure of whom the following ruckus originated from exactly, she slowly turned in the direction of the offender and looked Alex over.“Going after?” Noah echoed, gripping harder because landing foursquare tended to throw children off if you weren’t careful. “The cat, I guess.”
Rylie had plowed ahead as usual and was leaping ponderously from rock to rock and sniffing.
