The Hidden Door Chat Thread

I don't know, I was wondering about that too, I think Amer said it was a "work camp" which doesn't really narrow down just what the kids would be doing. I'm trying to think of what they could be put to work doing. I initially thought mine. But, food is a resource people need, and farming is something we know about, so it could be a large farming complex.

The question is what does the bad guy need all the kids for so badly that he has guys kidnap them. Also, why would the we-sa go along with it? Why the portals? Did he run out of easily available slaves? Or is he planning something?

Is it that the We-sa want to go to Earth, and what ever the kids are forced to do is opening the portals? Or part of something they'd need for what ever their plans are? ....

Too many possibilities for me to come up with something easily. I'm wondering if Kipp and Ashira would even end up in the same place as Fred's group, or if they'd even end up together.

way too many variables.
He created the we-sa to do his bidding and to strike fear into the people of Borealis.
Basically just fear-mongers.
He takes their children and anyone out at night, discouraging revolt.
But, he does use the children for things, and makes them useful.
The people of Borealis do not keep slaves, making them not useable.
The work camp isn't the only place he uses them, but they must be "promoted" or older to perform other tasks.

I meant the kidnapped kids were slaves.

What kinds of weapons, and will Kipp and Ashira be in the same place/doing the same thing as Fred's group since there's such an age gap? these 2 are 16, Fred and Chi are about 10 and 12ish, and the rest of the kids are 5/6 ish.

Heheh, asking all the hard questions. I'm just wondering if they'd accidentally run into each other.

Ok, I've not read the wingfeather saga. What tasks could they foreseeably be given?

....OIC that works
You should read it. :)

Known simply as Dakrium, meaning dark place.
Well, they could definitely do some mining.
They also refine and mold metal into weapons. (Swords, mostly.)
A few kids are given positions of power and promoted to guarding positions outside the complex.
It is lit by pyronium lamps. (Lol I made up that word anything Wiki tells you is incorrect)
They all sleep in a vast underground hollow with stone bunks high in the walls and thin blankets and pillows. The only way to get up is using the rickity moveable ladders.
The food is served in another cave thing. Only broth and bread. All the smoke leaves through a hole in the ceiling, so no suffocation.
There is only one entrance/exit, heavily guarded.
And then great furnaces.
Finally, at the far end are the coridum mines, the most dreaded and dangerous of positions.
It is thought that this complex was dug long ago by dwarves... and abandoned.
There are also other tunnels going to other places, but no one wants to go in them.

This all sounds awesome
And 'other tunnels going to other places' no one wants to go? Sounds like ripe opportunity.

They will make curved swords, called "crasha" in the Portsmoth language. *port means edge in the Portsmoth language, and moth means mountain. Translating to edge of mountain*
Crasha is made of coridum, a very strong, sharp metal that is said to feel extra painful.
Anyone roughly under the height of 5' will be forced to work in the coridum mines.

So... is Kipp in danger of being sent there? Or did he just barely make it?

All this sounds like a lot of fun. I can’t wait for Kipp and Ashira to wake up. Speaking of which, would they wake up in the bunks? In some room where a guard tells them what they’re doing?
