The Hidden Door Chat Thread

Me too Sam, me too. Actually though. The only mountains I’ve ever seen were the Smoky Mountains (in Appalachia) and even those I didn’t get to climb. I really want to see and climb the lofty snow-topped type. But *draws in breath* this year, that will all change. I will GO to the Rockies and climb them. Or if not on the way to Yellowstone where I’m going, in a year I will go on the “Out West” backpacking trip and then I will climb on them, sleep on them, and do lots of things on them. Well, it’s not always on the Rockies, it’s sometimes in the Grand Tetons. But I WILL FIND A WAY.
I've been on the mountains in Banff, though I didn't hike on the big ones. There's a lift. I did make an attempt for like 10 minutes on the tiny hill there that's technically a mountain. Sort of. First time I went was mid-summer, no snow caps. Second time I went it was snowing so heavily we couldn't even see the mountains.

I heard on the backpacking trip they had a snowball fight in the middle of summer! On the other end of the spectrum, at one of the locations on the "Out West" trip it was so dry there were no mosquitoes! So they slept under the stars!

Ooo. I like camping on the beach here, salt water, the bugs don't appreciate the salty air. You can sleep under the stars on the beach without being eaten. I wonder if the Rockies are taller further south. I know I've looked in to it before but I don't remember.

I think they are... but I don't know.
On our lake Superior backpacking trip, everything is out to get you.
There's mosquitoes in swarms, biting sable flies, horseflies, these things that look like lake flies but aren't (IDK if they bite you but they randomly fly out and assault you), and gnats and things that look like gnats. It's awful. The only solution is bug spray lotion or the super pungent smelling stuff that I actually grow to love because of the relief it provides. It's also deet free. https://www.amazon.com/REPEL-Eucalyptus-Natural-Insect-Repellent/dp/B07BWWQNL9
I'll spray it all over my clothes and hair as well. Everyone is coated in a few layers of mosquito spray by the end of it all. And yet I still enjoy it all.

I am stubborn about bug spray. Another one of those many things that makes breathing impossible for me. I tend to suffer through risking deadly diseases instead. :3 Or just don't go in the woods while the bugs exist.

Try bug lotion then. You won’t spray it, and it’s super effective because its layering your skin.
Why do I put myself through pain and suffering?
Because it’s not an adventure if you’re comfortable!

Hehhehe, last time i took one of my kids on an adventure i knew exactly where i was going it's a 10 min. Walk down a super steep hill to a waterfall hidden in the trees. Near where i grew up. My kid had no clue and was scared of getting lost. It was fun. That was ages ago now though.

“Sorry?” Hana asked, raising a brow at him. She searched his expressionless face, clearly what she had said troubled him. Is he close with his mother?

uhh, as a Canadian... which sorry is this?

For some reason I'm reading it as "What did you just say?" Defensive, how dare you kind of thing. But.... I don't think that's what it's supposed to be.

I'll assume it's supposed to be "what did I do wrong? ~ I didn't mean to offend you."
