I never read the books I, but I love the movies and was a huge fan of it when I was young. I would not know if they stuck with the books or not so I wouldn't be able to tell you after the movie. I can inform everyone whether it was good or entertaining and if it kept you in to it since it is almost 3 hours. My dad loved the hobbit (book).

I have read all the books several times though. Tolkien's work is the standard that all other fantasy books are measured by.

Awesome! surprisingly violent though and not suitable for 10 yrs and under.
