The Hobbit

Cons
The chase in the Orc cave was too unbelievable.
The wargs chasing the brown wizard with the rabbits was hokey.

The Orc cave was a little far fetched but it is lord of the rings. What was hokey about the chase of the brown wizard? Don't think they would fall for it?

I'm bad at critiquing movies. I go into everyone expecting to be entertained and I come out of almost every movie thinking it was awesome.

We got to see it on Christmas day, was very surprised that the tickets were so cheap. Great movie, read the books when I was in school but was not a huge fan of the of them
but love the movies. Is it only me or do the dwarves remind anyone else of Jim Henson creatures? Especially when they were singing in the beginning?? Don't misunderstand me, loved it, but still kinda made me think of Henson...

Saw it on the 15th, and I'm still obsessing over it!! I'm an absolute Tolkien freak! :)

I can't get over Martin Freeman. He was just phenomenal! He made the perfect Bilbo!! From beginning to end! All of the acting was extraordinary.

The only thing though, as far as added content goes, that I didn't like, was this pale orc....Azog, was his name? Sp? But anyway, he doesn't come in until the end of the book, at the battle of 5 armies I believe. It's been a really long time since I've read the book. x) But it still was an amazing movie! I'm going back to see it again this week!

I was actually really glad that they added stuff instead of cutting stuff out. I agree though, the chase of the brown wizard was a little cheesy....

So I can ask....
I've read the books a long time ago. Enjoyed them but I don't obsess. When Lord of the Rings came to DVD, DH and I watched it and I spent way too much time explaining things to DH, an old geezer who is not a reader of any fantasy books. He enjoyed the DVDs as much as he didn't understand what was really going on. He does like action movies; adores Star Wars.
Is the Hobbit fleshed out suffficiently to explain the whole concept enough that I can enjoy the movie without explaining anything and everything to DH?

I never read the book and I knew what was going on.

I started to fall asleep during some scenes. It was still a decent movie.

Pros
They added content from Tolkien's other works to flesh it out.

Cons

I thought kind of the same, But it was an overall great Movie!!!!

You are so right. You lose so much when you watch a movie like this on TV. I will buy the DVDs when they come out, but I must see it on the big screen now!

I have a 3D flatscreen and only buy movies in "widescreen" not QUITE as good as the theater but it makes up for it with cheaper popcorn and no annoying people in the next row! :)

good movie, even if you never read the book.

Hope we don't have to wait years between each movie........
