At least you are located in an area where it is easy to get honeybees.

My kids are against it. It’s taken a long time to convince them that bees are your friend & not Mother Nature’s hired assassins.

DD1 leaves shallow water out for them now & tries to save the ones that fall into the Duck pools. It’s a huge improvement.

As a student of botany she will be realizing the full value of honeybees. Anyone that gets to try my honey immediately loves bees.

Yes, they all get it, that’s why DD1 makes the effort, but they’re not ready for hives yet.

My bees aren't mean like Ralphie's. Of course, I don't try to pet them.

Sorry, I haven’t made through the whole thread yet. Anybody have any problems with furry predators breaking into their hives?

Hives must be protected (electric fence) in bear country. I have to have mine elevated about a foot to protect against skunks.

I have mine behind electric fences, but I live in bear country.

Also I am not sure about California bees, but the bees here do a pretty good job of protecting themselves. Especially, the dearly departed mean bees.

Most package bees are from California or Georgia . Many now think local bees have a better winter survival . IDK
