The Honey Factory

I wasn’t aware the point of beekeeping was to look cool.*

lol No offense at all. What I was saying was that it was cool to watch the bees at work. Like you could see them without having to "disturb" them and thus face their wrath. lol

It was 28 here so I went out and checked on the hives . Cleaned dead bees from the entrances . 3 hives live bees came to the entrance . The 4th was the aggressive hive . Dead with honey reserves . Cleaned out the dead and not enough bees to maintain the warmth is my guess . Might have squished her while looking for her late fall or she just did not raise enough late brood . I was going to replace her anyway .So I have drawn comb and honey for a split or swarm . All good .

It's 48°F here. The big hive is out flying strong. I found a half dozen dead bees in front of the hive a couple of days ago. There is a little activity at the Saskatraz hive. I suspect it is due to the big hive stealing honey from the Saskatraz.

The weather hasn't been harsh enough for any major die off.

I checked mine on Friday.

The Canooks have lots of bees still. Several dead up to 15-20 ft from the hive.

The Russians are not appearing to be alive, which surprises me as they were the strongest hive. I have 🤞they are still alive.

I saw plenty of evidence of live bees yesterday. There is bee crap everywhere out to 100s of feet from the hives. I have very few dead bees in sight. Of course this has been an exceptionally mild winter so far.

I didn’t know the package bees weren’t all sisters.

Made the like active also.
I did. There are always multiple different varieties of bees in the packages that I get.

Did you notice the holes in his gloves? If that had been you with those gloves, your hands would be swelling up.

Those are bees that probably came off of a pollination contract with poor brood patterns, old diseased combs, bees with short abdomens (diseased), synthetic chemical mite strips, covered with pesticide resistant mites. Then a mass produced queen that isn't mated or raised well is added. And thats why so many packages fail the first year.
