The Honey Factory

Some weird stuff going on with my hive. I locked up the front entrance with a rectangle slide in entrance reducer, and as I've said my hive was dead.
Yesterday, I walked over to the hive. The entrance reducer was turned and latched down in the open position and guard bees were guarding the entrance.???
So, I ran out with my dry sugar & newspaper, hive tool and smoker.
I took off the top box as it was empty and put the spacer back on with their pollen patty and the dry sugar.
There were bees in the hive? Not many but a fist sized amount.
My husband said maybe it was the bees and they decided to stay, but we can't figure out the entrance reducer? So weird.
What the heck was that? The honeybee fairy?

Bees out today and yesterday . 53 here . I had to be in town for lab - blood draw . So I stopped in the farm store . Bought some Bee Pro pollen substitute to make pollen patties . I may need those in 3-4 weeks when pollen starts coming in . Insurance for brood rearing . Weather can be iffy so insurance that brood gets protein if weather goes bad for many days .

Our milk handler whom I call "rat face", swatted at my curious honey bee girl.
I almost had a Wicker Man moment....
