Another single coyote day. We had another one up that took some #4 buckshot, but still managed to run us in circles until the tracks were indecipherable. We'll catch up with him later.
The Tacoma was a champ today. The snow was a good 12" - 14" deep, and the drifts were quite a bit deeper, but I had no problem bombing through it. I don't think the pictures show it very well since the tire looks like it's sitting in 2" of snow, lol
For anyone that's ever lost a chicken to a coyote, you can feel better knowing that after these coyote skulls got boiled and scraped, the chickens had a little revenge snack this afternoon.
Since our snow is pretty much gone, and it doesn't look like we'll be getting enough to chase coyotes again this year, it's time to think about turkey season.
This jake decoy has always seemed to big and intimidating to me, so I put him on a crash diet and made him the nerdy kid all the toms want to pick on.
27th annual Maine ice fishing trip. Good friend has a camp on West grand lake in Maine. His camp is the only one on a 2 acre island. Few of us go up for a 3 day ice fishing trip. Always a good time with friends, lots of food and laughs. The oldest member going is 73, and the two young guns are the camp owners sons who are in their 20's. Obviously, it's not there 27th yr, lol.
Fishing has been slow this yr, but still having a great time.
Last year was the first year I processed my own deer, and I threw together a sketchy hoist from a bed frame that had been recycled for a tractor mounted weight lifting rack. It kinda worked, but one of the two halves (of the weight rack) folded like a cheap suit and the other had a lot of flex and threatened to do the same with a lighter deer.
This week I decided to beef up my wimpy hoist.
Materials list:
One bedframe re-recycled from a weight rack
Two random pieces of rebar from ???
One length of flat stock recycled from a stake that held a little bridge in place over a ditch in our back 40.
I'll probably end up shooting 40 lb deer from now on.
