octagons are really expensive I saw an R-com Suro fully automatic for under 300 shipped. how about R-com 20 vs Brinsea 20?

I was going to get the rcom until I read a thread on here. Now I'm going with the brinsea octagon. It was 350 shipped for the advance

What thread? Any link? R-com Suro 20 is completely automatic even it has an automatic humidity pump regulator.

This is the thread I read from beginning to end. I suggest you do as well and evaluate if its worth it for you. In the end most are not using the humidity due to malfunctions caused with electronic components. To me that's what makes it a 2-300 dollar incubator so I opted to go with one that had better reviews and about $50 more.

Has anyone actually made their own DIY incubator for under $50. I'm in the process of building one now. I just bought the thermometer/hygrometer from ebay for $15 and water heater thermostat from ebay for $15. I got $20 left, but most of the other material I already have at home: 1/4" luan, foam, wood stock, bulb holder, computer fan, plexi glass. I do need to get a small low RPM motor to rig some kind of egg turner. I'm just to cheap to drop over $100 on an incubator for the small amount of eggs I plan to hatch.

If anyone has built an incubator, please post any ideas that could help. Thanks

Have you considered building one? Sally Sunshine did and she had some great hatches in it. She put together a how-to-build-coolerbator in this article:
