The Incubator Thread

You can store hatching eggs up to 14 days, but after day 7 their chances of developing and hatching drops rapidly, so it's best to set them a.s.a.p.

I have a Farm Innovators 4200 incubator and plugged it in last night to get the kinks out and to get it up to temp.

I have a digital thermometer/hygrometer ( it has indoor and outdoor temps) I also put in the center to verify temp and humidity. I noticed that the probe thermometer and the temp gauge are within 1 degree of each other. (about 90 degrees before I left the house.....I did adjust the temp knob before leaving the house because the instructions say it needs to be between 99 and 100 degrees)

The temp on the digital thermometer is about 10 degrees off of the readings on the incubator. (about 83 degrees)

I also noticed that the humidity reading on the incubator says it's at 85 percent. I put about 3 to 4 ounces of water in the water reservoir (not knowing how much water to use). On the digital temp/hygrometer it is reading 34 to 35 percent.

I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. Too much water? Do I need to take the digital thermometer out?

Thanks in advance for any advice........it has an automatic egg turner and a fan, btw.

I am wanting a incubator so bad... I even thought of making one but I can't really make anything. Maybe I will find one for a awesome price or someone will donate one to me.

luluann.........I saved up for a while to get mine. I too debated about making one. I am so excited about my first hatch. I am anxious to get all the kinks worked out!

That is what I'm going to do. I want to hatch off these oegb but was told the hen will not set. I having been looking but I'm still deciding

octagons are really expensive I saw an R-com Suro fully automatic for under 300 shipped. how about R-com 20 vs Brinsea 20?

The chances are that if you buy the king suro you'll regret it. They refuse to honor their warranty and I haven't been able to find anyplace in the U.S. that will or can sell parts needed to fix it. One place in California says they have them but must keep it to repair incubators under warranty. So they are basically an expensive disposable.

I went with Brinsea 20 Advance.

Thanks

If you get a Brinsea, make sure you use it before 30 days are up!!! They won't replace if it's been longer...I got a mini advance for Christmas...I live in MN...there isn't much hatching goin on in DECEMBER here in MN! I set some eggs in there first week of Feb...I was soo excited..not halfway thru the incubation period, the automatic turner quit!!! I caught it, worried that I was too late, but I did manually turn the eggs and they hatched..I called Brinsea and because it's been over 30 days..even though it wasn't even used and sat in the box all winter, they won't replace it..I have to send it TO them (at my expense) and they'll look at it and fix it and send it Back to me! I have eggs ordered to get here soon! Not too impressed with their customer service... :(
