The kitchen sponges worked! Humidity is up to 71. Temp is at a stable 100. So hopfully it doesn't get too hot in there. I had to put 5 sponges in there and all tbe holes are closed. So i figure throughout the night i can tweak as needed so i can get at least 1 or 2 holes open without bringing the humidity down too much. Im worried the temp is going to get too high as well woth all the holes closed. But it seems that maybe the humidity is keeping the temp down a little? I guess we find out!

Mine are a no-go this weekened... really messed up forgetting to get them out of the turner in time... ah, well... next batch is due next weekend...

I just got done trying to do a wing feather sexing on those 4 chicks, and it looks like I have 3 girls and 1 boy.

Feather sexing only works with a slow feather breed and a fast feather breed crossing...

I thought it works with all of them, and that the females fuzzy growth on wing tips was different than the males.

No, unfortunately not...

Otherwise most everyone could sell sexed chicks easy, lol...

I think I might have a chart on the crossings that work, I'll look...

I have the Australorps. They are 3 and 4 days old now. I had found this and that is how I tried to do it:

Yep, that's feather sexing... but it doesn't work for purebreeds, only 1st generation crosses... it's a type of sex-link...

Male has to be a fast feathering breed and female a slow feathering breed...

And the charts for identifying the sex of the chicks from those crosses...

Well ok, I am thinking that I have 3 girls and 1 boy. I guess that I will know for sure in about 2 weeks. I knew what my other ones were by that time.
