I had time to play with a recipe that I've been wanting to try. I've never done any canning before, so that was fun.

I got it from TMD Farms . That creole garlic spice sure smells wonderful. The full pickling should take about 3 weeks, but I had just a little bit of the liquid left after those two jars, so I boiled 4 more eggs and put them in it. I just ate one. Pretty tasty.Quarantine—great time to try new things, lol.
If you ever feel like sharing that recipe tho...
What happens if you violate it?All of California is under stay at home orders now.
Not much at this time. There are a lot of things that are considered essential activities, so they're not going to be pulling everyone who's out over or anything. What happens if you violate it?![]()
Shelves are empty here. No bread, eggs, milk, canned goods or pasta. There's also a problem with the supply chain for some stores causing shortages in certain products. Agreed that 'social distancing' is impossible with everyone rushing to stock up on supplies. My mom and grandma who are from Russia are being transported back to their days in the Soviet Union where people had money but there was nothing to buy. It's frightening what a reaction everyone is having over this when it is hardly as bad as the flu!Not much at this time. I went to the grocery store at 6AM this morning (The normally 24 hour store is now open from 6 AM - 10 PM) and it was a zoo. No 'social distance' really able to be practiced.
I keep my chickens and quail on my fully enclosed back patio. I put rice husks and shaved wood bedding (not cedar) (the type suitable for guinea pigs or rabbits) on the tile floor about 4 inches deep and have been adding more bedding as needed over the past year. I toss dry rice, cracked corn, sunflower seeds, or raisins onto the floor as a treat and to encourage the chickens to stir up the bedding which helps it compost well and keeps the smell to an absolute minimum. I expect that when needed, cleanup will be a breeze as there is a door that leads directly outdoors to the back yard and I can just sweep the well aged (no longer hot) bedding out the door and with a rake distribute it over the lawn as fertilizer/mulch. If this type of setup won't work in your situation, you might consider using a plastic tarp or cheap shower curtain under their hutch that you can fold the mess up into and periodically haul it back up those stairs for a hosing off.Hello all!
I spent three hours this morning moving six (very angry) birds and one huge hutch up and down two stories to get them into the basement. They are all set up now, and speckles even popped out an egg after being back in her hutch. Working on setting up some light sources because there aren’t any windows. Will also be sweeping a LOT more! anyone else quarantined as well? care to commiserate?
