The joys of lockdown...anyone else being shut in?

Shelves are empty here. No bread, eggs, milk, canned goods or pasta. There's also a problem with the supply chain for some stores causing shortages in certain products. Agreed that 'social distancing' is impossible with everyone rushing to stock up on supplies. My mom and grandma who are from Russia are being transported back to their days in the Soviet Union where people had money but there was nothing to buy. It's frightening what a reaction everyone is having over this when it is hardly as bad as the flu!
Umm... It's worse than the flu. The flu kills about .1% of those it infects. COVID19 kills about 1.4-2.5% of those infected. These stay at home orders are intended to keep the infection rate low enough that hospitals are not overwhelmed with patients who need critical care and to hopefully break the infection cycle.

It is particularly bad for people with compromised immune systems (think people going through chemo, HIV positive, diabetic, etc).

I understand shelter in place meaning to your property? Someone please correct me if I'm wrong as i'm not sure?
Your property, yes. If you go out, you should try to keep 6' away from other people, cough into your elbow or sleeve, keep contact to a minimum.

These percentages may be skewed by the fact that they are doing tests on people who think they are sick, instead of randomly. Yes I know all about that, I just have a hard time believing it considering that the total numbers are still so low.

The numbers are low now. They are growing exponentially. The stay at home orders are to slow that down.

Here in Ft. Bend County Texas, we are not on any orders (I don’t think) but all no necessary establishments are pretty much closing.. except fast food. Grocery stores are stripped. We are okay for now but will need some things pretty soon so waiting for the fuss to die down some!!

Hello all!
I spent three hours this morning moving six (very angry) birds and one huge hutch up and down two stories to get them into the basement. They are all set up now, and speckles even popped out an egg after being back in her hutch. Working on setting up some light sources because there aren’t any windows. Will also be sweeping a LOT more! anyone else quarantined as well? care to commiserate?

I'm getting plenty of exercise. The local wetlands park is about a two mile walk, so I've been doing that. There are more people out there than usual, but it's nowhere near crowded, so it's easy to keep the 6' distance.

I'm getting bored enough to be thinking about breaking out my little incubator to put button quail eggs in. My birds just started laying last week and I'm getting 3 eggs a day.

Someone talk me out of it, please. I don't need more button birds.

Hatching is so much fun, but there will be better times for it (like Fall, or next Spring!)

A duck laid an egg in the open part of our garden right about the time a hawk punched a dove out of the sky. Can you "scare" an egg out of a bird? My family talked me out of trying to hatch it, "let nature take its course." :p
