The Joys of rescue hens!

Oh that's the happiest story Iv heard for a long time :) we're on with our new coop which is originally a shed so I can get some more chickens aswel as afew rescue hens. I made the decision to get some rescue hens after I visited happy chicks in Lancashire where they rescue hens for rehoming. They were all alittle shell shocked to be out in the open And seemed nervous poor things this made me sad to think that these poor hens have a dreadful life and most never see the sky :( I can't wait to go and get mine they will get spoilt :) hope more people will get rescue hens.

Me too I love them! They spent ages just looking up at the sky when I got them. They were scared at the rehoming centre but there was a lot of commotion and they were packed tight into crates but when i got them home they really settled in quickly. It is fantastic seeing them behave like hens are meant to. Unfortunately I can't free range them due to foxes and cats but they have everything they need now. Just finished building their pen and added a dustbath and scratching area today. Will see if I can post pictures. It is so rewarding and saving me a fortune in electricity lol! Who needs tv when you have backyard chickens to watch! X

Have added a perch too which isn't in the photo but they are needing coaxing to use it :)

Great story!!! So Glad these girls now have a happy home and are spoiled, as every chicken should be!! :)

Just had to post this one......The Hen lying down with her eyes shut is Willow....this is her first proper dustbath and as you can see she is ecstatic lol! She rolled around like that for about an hour :D

No I would love to be able but I live in a residential area with a steep valley to the back, we have resident urban foxes (which use my garden as a walkthrough sometimes) and lots of cats, mine being one of them! I would hate to lose either of them. I might do it supervised once I have a more substantial fence at the back of the garden .....although they would have no grass lol! The previous occupants decided to gravel over every last blade! I just have to compromise with making their pen as comfortable as possible with lots to occupy them:D
