The Kansas/Missouri Chat thread! Everyone Welcome.

How are your birds doing? Is the neighbor from hell still a thorn in your side?

I'm glad you revived the thread, it's been dead for a while!

No. But we're being careful that our rooster doesn't crow in the backyard. That's how our other rooster made them mad.

My birds are doing great, and my silkie Ameraucauna cross is going to lay soon!

I'm very worried about the weather here. There are supposed to be severe storms this afternoon that will produce tornadoes. The storm is going to directly hit where I am.

I'm stashing stuff in the basement.

Howdy from Olathe!

ChickenPeep - ran into someone else that has a small flock here in Olathe. This person is just South of the courthouse. Our numbers are growing.

Awwwwww man! Major SETBACK today!!!

So my doorbell rings today, and it's a contractor asking to cut through my yard to walk the land directly behind my house. He tells me that his company is bidding on a construction project planned for next year that will be replacing the gas pipeline that is buried just behind my fence. This construction will effectively result in a large excavation RIGHT where we planned to put our coop and run. It will also take out my cement patio and all of the bushes around it... it will even claim one of our HUGE shade trees in the back yard as well as a significant amount of trees in the woods behind my yard.

So now I am trying to think about how to mod our design such that it can be disassembled in such a way that the structures can be reassembled. One idea is to effectively convert it into an ENORMOUS chicken tractor that can be unbolted from a cinderblock "foundation" and moved to another space in the yard for the two weeks it takes to replace the pipe and replace the coop/run foundation.

If I can't do that, then my chicken keeping days are put off for a year...

Edit Friday 5/18: Like literally... we were going to start building today... Hubby even took the day off...
