The khaki-Campbell duck Thread !!!!!!!!

Pics
We have khaki drake. but he doesn't look completely like all of yours. or at least not right now.

He is the one to the far right. This is a recent pic and he is almost two years old.

this is a pic of him and another khaki drake we had, until we sold him, and some runners and pekins. They look more like your drakes in this pic.

maybe it's just a seasonal or genetis color variation, he could be lighter? or perhaps it's because he is in molt. lol I don't know We love him anyways. He is our last duck from that group.

Why not just get a bigger crate for the inside and keep them like you have been. I have a few friends that have "house" ducks.

I would be very tempted believe me, but my OH won't agree. We only live in a small part of our house whilst we are renovating, so it's not very pratical. Actually today, I bit the bullet. We've had glorious weather this week and I have slowly been making their outdoor space into a little domain of their own. I also wanted to use their crate as a kind of porch for the little duckhouse we made. I got it all set up today and spent quite a bit of time on and off during the day getting them used to it.

I seem to have got them settled down, but it broke my heart leaving them out there. Typically we had a massive storm for about 3 hours this evening and it's throwing it down with rain. But they are tucked up nicely (I hope). I covered the crate/porchway and left their door open from the house to the crate until they get used to the new idea. The dog crate has doors on 2 sides of it so it makes it useful to use it this way.

So my fingers are crossed for tonight and that they are okay and not traumatised in the morning. They are so lovely. I took them foraging this afternoon and I sat on the grass watching them, then after about ten minutes they came over to where I was sitting and curled up right near me and settled down:love

I hope I haven't upset them for tomorrow!

I have mine outside now. they are the oppsite of yours, they are so skiddish still. I got 2 of  them when they  8 wks & 3 I think  are 3 mnths. they come running when I fill up their feed bowl tho :)
.

Yes mine love their treats, they really do come running for those. They also come running when they are out foraging and I start walking away, they really can move. I can't believe how adorable they are.

They are coming up 6 weeks old and just from yesterday I can see so much change. One of them has started getting a slightly darker head and the bill is getting a greenish tint, whereas the other one is still quite pale around the head and the bill is still slate grey. Apart from that they look exactly the same. So I could possibly have a boy and a girl or 2 girls I think.

So originally I ordered 5 Khaki Campbells from Ideal because a friend wanted some and I was ordering other chicks from them already. My friend came and took two and one passed away the first night he had it so he came and got a second one. Then a few weeks later he decided he wanted the other two. By that time we were attached and totally in love. So we started looking and found someone instate who has babies and we picked up 4 just for us.

So now I can introduce the 4 musketeers.

They are still very shy and don't want me anywhere near them but I am hoping with me hanging out with them daily that they will get used to me being around and start getting more friendly. One is very dark and the other 3 are lighter. Not sure how old they are since she had age ranges from day olds to 3 weeks old. They really like their little pond of water and are outside without heat already even though they are very young. The person I got them from doesn't use supplemental heat at all and all her birds seem to do fine. I did put a tarp over the top of their pen so that they won't get rained on since we are looking at rain for the next four days. Any thoughts on how we can win them over?

Just continue to interact with them as much as you can. Have treats for them to lure them closer. A little bowl of peas near your feet will bring them right up to you. They may never let you be touchy feely because of their age...they look several weeks old but still have down and not adult feathers. Simply because you were not there when they were really young (just a day or so old) they have not had the chance to imprint you so you may never be more than the bringer of food to them. They are precious though.

I picked up my babies this morning! They are 1/2 KC and 1/2 black runner. I am in love!!!! The black one is Whistles, dark brown is Pebbles (cocoa pebbles) and the tiny Khaki one is Jelly Bean :)

I figured they had to be in their first week of age since they are so tiny. I can hold one in the palm of one hand. They are starting to eat out of my hand now but they will do it for a bit and then run off like they forgot they were supposed to be scared for a bit. They are very funny and doing well even though it has rained pretty much non stop since they got here.
