The khaki-Campbell duck Thread !!!!!!!!

30 - 40 ducks sounds like way too many to be housed in that size of a space, especially if the geese, Rouens and Muscovies are in there also.

I guess I should clarify that we use two separate canopies. The Rouens and Muscovies have their own (although the khakis and baby geese sometimes sneak in there with them). Also, most of the birds are under 2 months old (a few are 3 months old) and they are only in there at night to sleep.

Whew, I feel better now! I don't know if it is a Khaki thing or not but my adult male chewed the screen off on one of my cellar windows. I never did figure it out unless he was trying to get at the dead flies between the window and the screen. Go figure. They do like to get out and roam around though.

Best of luck with them!

It's interesting to hear about "normal" Khaki's and then see my little girl. She is so not a "normal" Khaki. She is a loud mouth! Since she was hatched I think the only time she has a full 5 minutes of quiet time is when she is sleeping. Other than that she is quacking or is making her happy duck noise while laying down or swimming.

She also is a very friendly duck! Not nervous or shy at all. I come into the pen and her and Peepers come running up and will let me pick them up and hug them/kiss on them. She loves sitting next to me while I set out on the ground, ect.

She has a little spicy personality too, haha!

Yep, I'd say that yours are definitely not normal. Lucky you :)

I've a question... Is a Khaki Campbell the same as a Runner and Rouen cross (hybrid)?

I imagine that the KC has been bred with traits locked in so that they can continue to mate and produce more KC but that a hybrid mating with a hybrid could produce more Runner-type and/or Rouen-type ducks.

Am I on the right track?

I bred my Welsh Harlequin trio for the first time this spring. The first three eggs hatched last week. Here's what They look like:

The one on the right is clearly a Welsh Harlequin, the one on the left looks like the Muscovy drake got to the WH hen, but the one in the middle looks just like my khakis, none of which are old enough to breed.

It's my understanding that the WH is a color variant of the khaki. Anyone know what's going on to get a khaki looking baby out of a WH trio? (Pic below of the WH trio)
