I'm getting some khaki Campbell's next week , and have some questions

What is the overall temperament of these ducks .

Are they loud

What color eggs do they lay .

An overall summary of them would be nice too .

blame the hubby for the unimagitive name lol all our animal names are cheesy though now that I think about :D

Mine are not of laying age yet. They are adolescents about 3 months old. Their eggs are very light buff, almost white. They are among the most prolific egg layers of the domestic duck breeds.

I find their temperament to be VERY nervous. I cannot get within about 30 feet of mine.

Ducks do better in a flock. A single duck, or just 2 or 3 will be much louder than if you have more. I have 6 of them, and they are quite quiet. I rarely hear anything out of them, unless there's a predator or perceived threat.

That's been my experience so far!

Okay that's good I have 2 Cayuga/Rouen eggs hatching today so I needed a few more for a bigger flock , I think they'll be okay then if they watch for predators that will probably help my lazy rouens from getting eaten at night since they're free range :)

Help! Oh the confusion...
I have a question regarding my two girls. My one year old KC is my only broody hen (made her own nest, laid all the eggs, etc), but my other hen seems to want to be involved in the egg care. It's funny bc she lays her own eggs and has no desire to lie on them. She gets into the broody box and wants to lie next to my broody hen. Then another strange thing happened, when I let the two girls out for a quick swim, the broody hen mounted her friend (who was signaling that she wanted to mate). This is so strange to me. Do you think she wants to fulfill the fatherly role?

I think its her saying she submits to the alpha female as a way to appease her and allow her to be involved? Is that a possibility?

Salam Subhanallah!

I'm not sure. I have never seen this type of behavior between two girls. As you may recall, I separated all the hens from the drakes bc they were getting sexually abused. I didn't think they would ever want to be involved in mating after what they endured. This might just be a friendly hen bonding thing going on here???
Could you please give me some advise on what to do when the eggs hatch? I hope they don't quarrel over who the mom's going to be. Lol!

:jumpy

Salam
