I didn't know that, and it's not in my book, but I'm sure it's true. I've only been here 5 years, so definitely still learning about this great place.

jeauca, that place sounds fabulous! You have HOW MANY chickens?

Good Morning All,

Beautiful morning here again in little old Wales. But still very cold in the mornings, we had a hard frost this morning, but now the sun is up. I have spent an hour watching a Wood pigeon who is builkding his nest in one of my trees, he is a beauty. lol...

Orp, favourite tool? At the moment that would be a Pick Axe right now, I am demolishing a wall for my pergola...lol. But generally my hammer, my saw and also one of those sets with the Hex thing and lots of bits that go with it, I love it.... if has bits for all types of screws and also allen key fixtures so it works for everything around the house. My littl;e black box has everything.

My town, well I live between the Capital of Wales which is Cardiff and Newport, closest to Newport but I hate the town, it has come up time and again as the worst place in Britain, is a no go area of Friday and Saturday nights, and was in the middle of major reconstruction when the recession bit. So now it is like a huge building site and I never go there. lol.....

Historically both cities are very interesting, Cardiff has a huge castle and was originally a market town, very pretty around the civic buildings, Newport grew as a Port due to the Iron and Coal industries and also had a castle, and an Iron Age Fort very close to my house, we have a stately home a university in both towns and we have Caerleon, which was a Roman Town and have an ampitheatre and the Roman Baths here.

So while the town Centre is not nice, the area around here is beautiful and has loads to see, the Valleys are now healed from the effects of industry and we have loads of small mountains and deep valleys, all about 5 miles from the coast. Small country but highly compressed.

The M4 Motorway runs about half a mile from my house and it is 2 hours to London.

So it is not all bad and I just stay out of town. lol....

Ok, the village where I live has a population of around 1000. It has a rich history - some tools dating back to the stone age have been found in the immediate area. We have a group of standing stones that were erected in around 1500BC. Robert the Bruce fought many battles around this area. There used to be a castle in the village, but it was demolished in 1963

Most notable resident would be James Ferguson (1710-1776) who was an astronomer and instrument maker.

Very cool way of getting to know each other a little better Orp.

Arggghhh! Jena, I want to ask you some questions, but am going to be late for work if I don't leave. I'll be back!

*zoom------------------>*

I live in Coos Bay, Oregon. Back in the 70's, we were the world's largest lumber shipping port...not so much now. Also back in the 70's we had a booming fishing community...not so much now. In the 90's we were the lucky participants in the New Carissa grounding on our beaches and the final remnants were removed in the 2000's. I like this area because it doesn't get too hot in the summer, nor too cold in the winter and you don't have to shovel rain either. Although I do have to say that in May and June when everyone else is having nice summer days and we're still having rain, I do tend to get very tired of the rain. I'm thinking about moving somewhere warm when I retire, but I'm going to be picky about it...I don't want tornados or hurricanes, no snow and I don't want it too hot...doesn't leave much, does it? LOL

Hi. My town used to be a little farming railroad depot, grew sorta through to the depression, shrank, and growing now as its being swallowed by the monster Atlanta suburbs. Very vanilla, sprawling, not a clue for pedestrians, preservation/conservation or anything not in Walmart. I've lived in this house since 1989. Holy cow, that's over 20 years! Before that, it was a short series of rentals after moving in with BF who quickly became DH. My parents constantly moved. Five different high schools, not counting the short stops that I didn't even bother going to school. As far back as I can remember, they always moved. Ohio, PA, INd., Washington, Idaho, Tn, Ga. I stayed put in Atlanta.
I like living here because DH has a good job here and good health insurance. Drive on a tank of gas gets me to the mountains or the ocean. Or downtown Atlanta, but why would I go there? I can keep chickens in our subdivision because the covenants expired. Or no one cares. I have a big garden, and after 20 years of stop and go trial and error I have something other than brick clay in some parts.

okay, I'm suddenly having trouble with that 20 years. OMG.

Where did I live before Ophir... (I forgot to put this..)

Born in Norwalk CT..
Lived in Avon Ct.
Moved to Marinwood CA at 2yo... same house for 20 years
Sacramento at 22 (lived in lots of places there)
Grass Valley (lots of places)
Chicago Park
Nevada City
Grass Valley
Cedar Ridge
Auburn
Grass Valley
Ophir...

Ahhhh thanks alot.... Now I do look like a vagabond!! My first husband and I did fixer uppers, so we moved ALOT... every 6 or 8 weeks or however long it took us to fix up and resell, obviously before the housing slump. Then got divorced and moved around alot as a destitute single mom. Then got remarried and divorced... lots more moving...

anyone hearing the theme song to a soap opera????

I swear I am a totally normal, stable human being!!

Right after I found out I was pregnant with my first daughter in 1990, my two girlfriends and I took an impulsive road trip to Coos Bay Oregon because I had free Red Lion Inn coupons.. in a car you had to push to start. I have very fond memories of barfing all over Red Lion Inn and having my friends hate me cuz they always had to do the pushing while I got to pop the clutch!

Sort of like Stonehenge but not nearly as impressive. More like a pile of big stones in a field!

What do I like about the village? Because it is small it has a very good sense of community. Everyone knows everyone else - and that is also what I DON'T like about it! You can't have any secrets!

I was born and raised in Aberdeen which is Scotland's 3rd largest city. We moved to the country when I was 21 then a year later I got married and DH and I bought a house at the beach. We moved to where we are now 3 years after that.
