THE LAVENDER MARANS THREAD

I have a broody sitting on some BCM eggs that were crossed with my Lavender Marans rooster! Will the hatched chicks present as BCM with some having the self-blue gene?
A cross of Black Copper Marans and self blue, will give you an F1 generation of 100% black chicks that all carry the self blue gene. So if you were to breed one of the F1 girls to your self blue boy, you’d get about 50:50 in the F2 generation that are self blue, ideally. :) They will all be super fluffy beautiful chicks either way though! I love Marans chicks!

Thank you, this is so helpful! They hatch this weekend, so I will definitely post photos. When you say the F1 generation will be 100% black, they will not carry any copper at all?

They may have copper, sorry I should have included that! I don’t know exactly how the copper gene works but I’m guessing some will and some won’t have the copper. Since the lavenders may or may not carry the copper gene under the diluted coloring!

So Lavender Marans are lavender or "self blue" in color and are not related to the blue color of Blue Copper Marans. They should be a very uniform silvery grey color like other lavender colored birds.
Their foundation stock is from BCM mostly. Lavender Orpingtons were used to bring in the lavender color, then many generations of breeding back to maintain the proper Marans appearance and proper egg color. 😊
Im new I have Lavender Maran an Lavender Orphington just sold my Lavender Maran Roo
