The Legbar Thread!

hey all! been internet reading for my new chooks and this seems to be where i ended up lol i brought 2 what i have been told are legbar, as did the people that brought them from the breeder, such pretty birds!

they're around 30 weeks old now and they arrived to me the day before yesterday :)

I thought I would post some photos of my two Cream Legbar chicks. I won a dozen eggs from Greenfire Farms earlier this spring when I entered a photo contest. They shipped 18 eggs, several different breeds. These are the Cream Legbars that I had hatch. I was so lucky to get a male and female. Later I purchased some Cream Legbar eggs from Ebay and they did not hatch. I since have purchased more from a different seller on Backyard chickens. They should hatch any day now. I just LOVE these chicks!!!! I just wanted to share my excitement!
This 4-wheeling chick just has to appear in a future club newsletter!

Lovely. Thanks for that. Now for a question. .. do they ever lay buff/ white eggs as pure breed? As one has the blue the other is buff/white both hens are almost identical

The one laying buff/white is probably a mixed breed then, just looks very close to the real thing. They should only lay blue/green, or if you are in the UK it is also acceptable for them to lay olive. Never white/buff.

this is what came out, i've been told the breeder only breeds pure so its confused me somewhat

Yup, I got me a buff layer. :-(
And, unintentionally, three chicks (two pullets, one cockerel) from my buff layer x CL roo. The pullets will be consigned to the layer flock along with the buff layer. My purebred CLs will be banded.

So is brown (egg) a simple recessive gene? And blue is a simple dominant, right? So you'd get 1/4 double-recessive brown, 1/2 blue carrying the brown gene, and 1/4 blue/blue, right? Or no?
i honestly have no idea, these girls only came to me on sunday (30 weeks old) and these are the first eggs i've been presented with, i do have a plymouth rock in there too but the people that sold me the pair did say the one does lay more whitish eggs, and i'm assuming this lighter one is not from the plymouth as it seems to be on the very small side for an 18 month hen
