Chapter Seventeen.
It was a week since Pepper got adopted, and a month since I arrived at the "animal shelter,", at least that's what the other birds called it.
Meanwhile, I have been hanging with my fan club, and meeting new friends.
Today, I was feeling kind of bored, so I decided to take a nap. I fluffed up, pulled my foot into the softness of my feathers, and closed my eyes.
I stayed that way for a couple of minutes, then a young female human walked right up to our window. I put my foot down, and stiffened my feathers. Humans don't usually come to visit us. They mostly just go see the "dogs" and "cats", even "hamsters".
I climbed up the bars of my cage so I was as close to the window as I can be, and studied the human.
The humans pointed at me, and said something that was muffled by the glass. They looked at the other birds, too, then left.
I climbed back to my perch, and resumed my nap.
"Whatcha doing?" Chirpy edged towards me on his perch.
"Not much. Did you see that human?"
"Yeah, why?"
"There was something... different about her."
"How?"
"I don't know, she just seemed so... I don't know what to call it, excited, maybe?"
"Well, I guess she was a bit, but they all are, aren't they?"
"Yes, but... Nevermind, it was probably just nothing."
"Ok, then." Chirpy climbed back to his rope perch.
Just then, the human came back with another human, one that worked at the shelter, behind her. It looked awfully familiar, but I just can't remember what this meant.
The human that worked here came into our room.
There was something different!
"Wait a minute..." I chirped.
"Isn't that...?" Chirpy asked.
"Yes it is!" I was so happy, "I'm getting adopted!"
At last, I'm getting adopted!
