Chapter Twenty Eight

Two days later, I was still sitting on my perch with nothing to do. The past few days have been dull. No one seemed to want to talk to each other, and the atmosphere made me want to explode.
Today began like any day this week, I ate my breakfast, and the two humans left the room to do whatever human thing they did.
Around noon, the doorbell rang, and with a ominous echo to it.
"Oh, not again! I'm in trouble now," The mommy human said to herself.
She reluctantly went to go answer it. The same person came into the room as the last time someone did.
When he spoke, he did not sound happy.
"You have not yet paid your veterinary bills."
The other human did not speak, and as far as I could see, just stared at the ground.
I couldn't see much of the two humans because a wall was blocking me, but I could see and feel enough to tell that they were not happy.
I thought that this would be about the same thing as the last time that person came.
I was wrong. It not only affected them, but me, too.
After a few minutes of their boring, low pitched human conversation, the two humans walked into my room.
I flattened my feathers, and stared at them.
"So this is the bird?" The male asked.
"Well, yes," She sounded nervous.
The visitor came over to me, and picked up my cage.
"I'll just be leaving with her."
"Ok,"
"And I expect you to report to your local prison within a week."
She didn't reply, just cried to herself.
Then, when she finally calmed down, she asked, "But what about my daughter?"
"We will provide somewhere for her to be," He replied," But you will have to pay for it."
She nodded, "I understand."
"Good," He said, and left with me.
