Chapter Nineteen

I was panicing. I flew around my cage crazily.
Then, suddenly, I had an idea.
I settled down on my rope perch, and said loud and clear, "Hello!"
The very young female human turned around to stare at me.
"What is it?" Asked a rather grumpy human, the one who worked at the shelter.
"This one can talk!"
"Of course she can, it says so on her cage!" He stopped, "Oh, I forgot."
"Forgot what?" She asked sweetly.
"You can't read!"
"You can be nicer, you know," a nearby human who was watching, said.
I flattened my feathers, and leaned backwards on my perch as the arguing continued.
"Stop!" The girl finally said, "You're scaring her!"
Grumbling, the human turned around, and said, "So which one do you want?"
"I'm taking this one."
The human grabbed me, and put me in the box.
Here we go again.
I suddenly remembered, "Chirpy!"
"What is it, Apple?" Chirpy replyed, his voice muffled.
"Goodbye!'
Before he could reply, I was whisked away.
The bumpy ride. At least, now I was excited to get adopted. I'm going to miss Chirpy and the others, though, but I figured they would find new friends like I had when Polly and Pepper got adopted, but this time, Chirpy had lots of friends already. I shouldn't worry about him. I'm getting adopted!
I looked through the air holes in the box.
The humans were taking to a shiny red thing. The opened it, and we went in.
I was chirping like crazy, I was so excited!
"Hello little birdie!" The human said, opening the box.
The thing took off at amazing speed. I was scared of it, and stopped chirping.
"You want me to pet you?" The human said happily
I cocked my head at her.
The girl then put a giant finger on my head, pressed down hard, and "Petted" me.
I moved to the other side of the box's rim.
Maybe getting adopted wasn't such a great thing, but I'll live through it!
