Chapter Forty One

Today is the day one of my eggs are supposed to hatch.
I incubated them the whole morning, then stared at them, wondering when and which will hatch.
What color mutation would they be?
How many would be boys and how many will be girls?
I wondered the whole afternoon.
"Clouds!" I poked my head out of the hole, "They aren't hatching!"
"They don't have to hatch today," Clouds yawned, "They don't always hatch exactly the day they were supposed to. Or maybe they will later today."
"I'm so impatient, though!"
"Yes, I know you are."
"Very funny."
I went back to stare at my eggs more, and preened while I was at it.
Before I knew it, I fell asleep.
I dreamed of a giant egg hatching. There was a pip that cracked longer and longer.
Suddenly, I was in that egg. I pushed and pushed at the shell, but I couldn't get out.
"Come on out," A giant mother budgie chirped from the outside, "I want to eat you."
I woke up.
Suddenly, I remembered myself hatching.
It was hard stuff.
I incubated the eggs more, until I felt one of them move ever so slightly.
I got up, and stared at that one egg.
A tiny pip was forming.
"Clouds!" I yelled.
"Clouds, our egg is hatching!"
