Chapter Fifty Four

It took a few minutes, but then, at last, it hit me.
Aqua was dead.
I couldn't believe it, and I kept thinking that if I had done something differently, she wouldn't have died.
The sun was starting to come up.
All the budgies were shaken by the event.
I squeezed through the hole, and fluttered down to the grass.
I was looking for a flower.
When I finally found one, a flower as blue as Aqua, I squeezed back into the aviary, and laid it directly underneath her box, when the owl had taken her.
I looked up at the box, and fluttered to it. Most of the top and been broken off.
Glancing at her chicks, I settled down on them. They would be mine now. I would fulfill Aqua's last wish if it was the last thing I did.
"Hey," Sky flew to me, and perched on the side of the box, "Why are you brooding Aqua's chicks?"
"She's dead," I whispered, as if saying it softly would mean it didn't happen.
Sky's eyes widened, "Really? Was it that thing?"
"Yes. The owl."
"Oh." Sky seemed sad.
"Go tell everyone," I told him, "We are not leaving until Aqua's chicks are fledged,"
"But,"
"GO. It was Aqua's last wish."
"Ok." Sky took a closer look at me.
"What happened to your wing?" He asked.
"Owl." I replied.
Sky flew off.
Some sort of lonely despair took over me. I couldn't stop thinking.
What will we do now?
