Chapter Sixty One
I stared at the budgie in surprise.
"Well?" She demanded.
"Um," I thought about what I should say.
"WHAT?" She was not only angry now, but also impatient.
"Do you know where I might find a budgie named Sky?" I asked awkwardly.
"Hey, what's going on down there?" A white face peeked down from a higher branch.
"Apple?" It said, looking at me.
Could this be Sky?
"What's up with you two?" The first budgie demanded, angry and confused.
"Calm down, Leaf," The budgie told her.
"Um... Sky?" I asked him. This was all really confusing to me.
"Apple," Sky asked, "What are you doing here?"
I was glad Sky wasn't as mean as "Leaf".
"Who's that?" I asked in shock, staring at Leaf.
"Oh, that's Leaf, my mate."
"Your mate?" I repeated.
"Yeah. She was just getting worked up, because she was worried you'll hurt our chicks."
"Can I see them?" I asked Leaf, "I won't hurt them, promise."
"Ok," Leaf chirped, softening up.
She led me into the tree hole.
In a small dip in the hollow, there were five chicks with just a little fuzz on their bodies.
"Oh, they're so cute!" I squealed.
"Aren't they?" Leaf chirped.
"I have chicks of my own, you know."
"You do?" Sky looked at me, surprised.
I assumed he was surprised I wasn't with them, "They're grown up now."
"Oh," Sky chirped quietly, "I see."
