Chapter Seventy

The hawk was just about to bite my head off when I grasped the branch tightly, and pushed myself out of her grip.
My wings burned with pain.
I landed in a pile of pulled up weeds.
I guess the hawk was full from eating a nest full of baby chicks, or it was just my luck.
I thought she wanted to teach me a lesson.
The hawk flew away, screaming.
My wings hurt so bad. I'm so stupid!
Why didn't I go back when I could?
And whoever taught me to taunt a hawk?
But then, I deserve this. I've killed six chicks in all. I couldn't let myself live.
"Apple?" A surprised voice rang behind my back.
With great pain, I turned around and sat myself on my stomach.
A sky blue budgie looked at me with concern.
"Sky? Why are you here?" I asked him.
"I saw everything," He replied.
I didn't reply.
"That wing looks like it hurts," He chirped quietly in case the hawk was still nearby.
"It does," I muttered.
"I wish there was something I can do."
"Guess you can't" I chirped uncomfortably
"Are you still going back to your aviary"
"I guess I'll try" I chirped
But I will probably die first
