The Lonely Hen --This is one of my chicken stories--

Chapter 22

I woke 5 minutes later from a huge crunching branch. I looked around. I didn't see much. It was still day time. I peered over bushes and under my tree. Huh, nothing. Strange. I stayed awake and hidden just in case it was a predator. Who knows, it could be a deer. I shrugged and hid a little more.
My stomache was growling. I'm hungry, very hungry. I kept looking around for any predators. I didn't see any. I got down slowly branch to branch. When I finally reached the ground, I looked everywhere. Nothing to be seen besides green grass and bushes. I slowly went over to the clearing, still very catious. I looked back up at my nest. Babies are safe.
I caught some bugs and felt better. I heard another noise. This time rustling in the bushes. All the sudden a racoon jumped out. I screamed and ran for the nearest tree. I flew high up. The coon was climbing. I had a plan.
It got closer and closer. It was a foot away from my feet and I jumped right on his eyes. I sunck my nails really hard in him. He yelped and wimpered and fell 20 feet landing on his back. He was all gross and bloody. He looked dead. I got down to the last branch and stared at him. I didn't see his heart pounding at all. He was dead. I felt so proud of myself!
"Yay!" I shouted. But then I shut my mouth. I didn't want any other animal hearing me.
I was standing there, smiling and all happy.
Oh no! I raced to my nest and the eggs were still hot. I'm not leaving this nest for a while. I got a little teary eyed, hoping they'd be alright.
It was day 3 today. Wow, short. It felt like years since I left the coop.
I started to think about Pepper and Ethel and how they are treating each other.
I remembered their last fight....
"Pepper that piece of bread is mine!"
"Ethel I don't think it matters. It's only one piece. Go get your own!"
Ethel was ragging, "Give me it!"
Pepper ran so fast. She told me that the way Ethel was acting was pretty funny.
This was when they were young. about 15 weeks old. They were still little girls.
Oh the good old times!
I was starting to get tired so I fell right to sleep while still thinking about Ethel and Pepper.

Chapter 23

One week later.

Not many animals have been passing by. Only deer and sometimes foxes, but they didn't notice me. I was hidden very well. It was day 10 and I was getting more excited by the day! I havent ate for about 3 days and I was starving. I decided to go eat now because I knew a storm was rolling in.
I actually caught a lot of bugs and picked at grass and it filled me up! I also drank some water a bit, but there was barely any left. I just decided to drink it all 'cause of the storm tonight. I hope the storm won't be a bad one. I flew back to my Little Miracles (yet to be.)
I heard thunder off in the distance. I sighed. I hope it also rains so I can drink. I saw a flash of lightening. The storm was getting nearer....
I looked straight above me hoping I'll be protected just in case it pours. I could barely see the sky. Good!
I started to think... my babies will be beautiful from Matt's feathers! He is a Silver Laced Wyandotte and he is just beautiful!
I started to feel very tired. Wow, did I think too much? Oh well, I went to sleep.

About an hour later a huge crackle of thunder woke me up. It was down pouring and I was wet, but not drenched. Ugh, I don't like being all wet! When will this rain stop!?
I felt a thud below me. I looked down by the trunk of my tree. There was an animal there. A fox. It looked like he wanted protection too from the rain. Hopefully he won't discover me.
He was wimpering and he could hardly walk. I looked more closely at him and he had a cut in his leg, a cut in his stomache, and a cut in his back. For some odd reason I felt a little bad for it. I will just let nature take it's course with him, as long as he doesn't die under me.
I just ignored him and tried to enjoy the storm... having a hard time with that since it was still raining.
I was getting so bored so I just decided to fall back asleep, I anticapated to sleep a while and for the thunder not to wake me up.

This just keeps getting better and better every chapter. This is so good I have my DW and DS listening to me read it to them and wondering when the next chapter will come. Now that is what I call a well written story.
Waiting for the next chapter.
