Chapter 15
When I woke up I felt much better and more alert. Ethel and Pepper were still sleeping. I got down and caught some bugs. I was looking around to see if there was puddles for water when I heard this rumbling noise. I looked up at the sky. There were dark clouds covering the sunshine. There is going to be a thunderstorm.... Oh great. It was already starting to sprinkle. I looked around to try to find a whole so the rain can fill up in that and then we can drink from that. I would have to wait till it poured though. Darn. I went back to the tree we stayed in.
"Pepper," I said, "Ethel! Wake up! It is starting to storm!"
They didn't respond. I flew up to them and pecked their heads. "Wake up lazy heads!"
"Owww!" Pepper and Ethel said in unisun.
"It is going to storm." I said to them.
They rolled their eyes. "We will just have to stay in a bushier tree than this to stay protected from the rain then." Pepper said.
We looked for a nice puffy pine tree and sat in it. The storm was going on forever! It poured and thundered and lighting was stricking. It lasted for about 2 hours till it stopped raining.
"Let's go look for a hole and drink water from it." I said to them.
We found a nice round hole that was 6 inches deep. Yum, that water was delicious.
"We are going to have to get the move on if we want to make it to the coop by nighttime." Peper said thoughtful.
We nodded, "Right." Ethel said.
Ugh, it was getting hotter and hotter as the day dragged on. "I'm exhausted," I said sleepy. "Come on and take a break with me."
They didn't argue because I knew they wanted to rest too. We went to sleep for about 30 minutes when a rustling in the bushes woke us up. Not again.... Oh great.
