"Then yes, we should hatch it." She said, beaming. Her pretty face was aglow with motherly joy.

He sat down next to her happily. He waited for her egg to be laid.

"Because you can't be a chicken." Said Rain, laughing in earnest. "A rock cannot become a tree."

Rain, striding into the rat's hiding spot, sighed. She was feeling much better. Though, her comb ached. She was losing all its points to frostbite.
"You are. You're rats, not chicks. Leaves, not sticks. You are different, but you are no worse for it. Frankly, if all was the same, life would be boring. But you are not birds. No eggs, no wings, no feathers. No scales, no beaks, no combs. You have four legs, not two. You have teeth set in a furry muzzle, not a beak. You have hair, not feathers. And you have ears and paws and long tails have make me hungry every time I look at them. You may not be chickens, but you are family, and that is what counts."
