The Lucky Seven

Hatching your own chicks does sound like more fun! I haven't done that yet because I have Buff Orps and barred rocks mixed in together and haven't been able to get more room to separate the barred rocks with their own rooster. I love the barred rocks and want more for sure! I do have Salmon Faverolles in a separate pen that are about 4 1/2 months old. They're not laying yet, but when they do I'd love to hatch those eggs. I hate to play favorites but the Faverolles are It for me.

Hello, I had one barred rock that would not open its eye for a while and when she did it was a blue color and I am pretty sure she is blind in that eye. She gets around just fine and eats and drinks with the others but is much easier to catch lol You could also try cackle I got a letter today saying that the post office in kansas city was messing up there orders causing delays but they said they got it fixed. They have been great to work with. plus our feed store got mcmurry chicks and they did not look as good imho. good luck

Just to let everyone know, my new chicks have arrived! All alive and doing fine! Will have more info later. Have to get to work.

For the first time this year I hatched naturally with a hen. I'll never go back to any other way! She did all the work, and every chick was born healthy. Some folks don't like that way because hens aren't particularly happy about humans poking their nose in as often as we like to do. I chose a hen that was extra friendly and used to being handled a lot by me, because I knew I wouldn't manage to keep my hands off the baby chicks! I did get pecked a couple of times, but she let me handle them enough to keep me happy.
