The Master Trapper!! 2nd one in 3 days!

No kidding it's just a look! We went to carry the trap off of the back deck the with the first coon, because it was keeping us awake, and we could barely carry it, the darn thing was trying to tear our hands off!! Literally!! 2:30 in the morning, flashlights in mouths, hands on trap (its heavy) thinking our fingers are about to get it--not the best time in the world. O'well, small price to pay!! I still have my

I got one of those live animal traps at TSC. It has been used quite extensively and been well worth the money. It's about worn out. In the past couple years I've caught some where around 22 coons, 6 'possums, various stray cats, and one skunk in it. I have grain in the barn for my steers and those little critters seem to like to get in it. I have it set right now. I suspect I have another coon coming around. I'll find out in the morning.

We catch critturs all the time in a couple of live traps we got from TSC.
We used to have a family of coons in our back yard, *the babies were adorable!* but then we got a pack of bird dogs, and the cooners mysteriously disappeared.

Thank you again for sharing this wonderful invention with us.

I was thinking that instead of hardware cloth for the trip plate, perhaps a piece of that ventilated wire shelving would work better. Maybe place it so the bars run horizontally. Maybe use it under the hardware cloth. I'd think that over time the hardware cloth would get saggy and the latch wouldn't be as sensitive.

Let me know what you think, you're the genius inventors...

My FIL and MIL divorced about 5 years ago - they are back together now but anywho - He lived in a log cabin he and my DH built together and lived without electricity or water inside the cabin or any of that good stuff for a couple years. He ate what he hunted. He had a buddy stop by one evening and my FIL offered him some stew he had made. Roger ate it up and said "Man, this is the best pork I have ever eaten!" My FIL started laughing and ROger was like "what?" and my FIL said "Roger, do you see any pigs out here? Don't you see all these coon hides - your eating coon!" LOL LOL He had to admit it was very delish. This story still cracks me up.

I have never eaten coon but wouldn't hesitate if I were hungry enough. I have heard lots say they are good. IDK..... Just reminded me of this, didn't mean to hijack

Yes, about the hardware cloth, you are correct it does sag, especially with the weight of a 17+ lb. critter-but only to a point. We thought of changing it out to something sturdier, but instead we just let the trip plate raise higher therefore allowing less room for error. My husband just shortened the rod that runs from the trip plate to the trip line and that made it lighter to the touch so to speak.

But yes, you are correct, it does sag. But only to a point.
