The Middle Tennessee Thread

My little one has been sick and we've been busy, so I had a lot to catch up on. Sounds like everyone has been busy!

My girls are getting a little closer to laying, so ready for it! The Marans I hatched from Donna are still a little skittish, but I don't blame them since the kids harass them. Moved them to the bigger brooder, and the bantam Cochin has been looking for a way out.

This is my first Cochin btw, I love the fluffy feet!

Anyone in East Nashville have any trouble with hawks? We are starting to let our hens out of the tractor coop to free range in our fenced yard. I wasn't sure how worried I should be about hawks. We have two BO hens right now (and 5 BC Marans in the brooder).

I dont have chickens in town but we have a house in inglewood and see hawks FREQUENTLY we had one eating a snake in the back yard one day. Now my farm neighbor has never had a chicken taken by a hawk and she free ranges all her chickens and we have several pairs that live in the woods nearby. They are all over now. Just would have to watch them.

I am thinking about getting a rooster but I am looking for someone close to me and I need a rooster about the same age as all of my hens or close if possible.
I am in tennessee and my hens are almost 3 months old. I got my hens from the 4h chick chain and I am wanting a rooster that is friendly and free if possible.

Tennessee is a LONG state...where are you? I typically dont keep extra roos that long. Are you going to use him for breeding or what? Do you have a breed in mind? Oh i have a SLW roo about that age or a little older. They are very calm roos. And VERY pretty too.

Well - I have just raised several buff bantam brahmas and found out I have 7 roos and 7 pullets. They came from McMurray Hatchery and I SWEAR I ordered sexed females, but I looked back at my order and found I ordered straight run. I also have a very nice black cochin pair. Are you interested in any brahmas? I'm not sure if I want to part with any hens since I was trying to increase my hen-roo ratio, but let me know what you'd like.
