The Middle Tennessee Thread

Did anybody else catch the evening news about the wild ducks on Old Hickory Lake dropping dead yesterday? Something like 30 ducks on one property. The owner alerted the Wildlife people who took some of the ducks and sent them out of state for testing.

Oh wow! I was on Old Hickory this week-end at Boxwell Cub Scout camp. They had sprayed heavily earier in the week because the ticks were so bad there...wonder if the pesticides are involved?

Dmrippy that's the duck man I was telling you about I only have two guineas And what a difference in the ticks and bugs I have this year.
No we were not talking to the DuckMan. It was another guy. I did talk to the duckman I was checking to see what color guinea he had but he only had pear. It really worries me when they have dead birds in pens and do nothing to remove the dead birds. I bet he had 10 dead birds between all his pens....... The other guy didn't have one dead bird.

I find it interesting that they sent the bodies out of state for a post mortem. My DH was just reading me a list the day before that TN is the 7th most corrupt government among the 50 States. Does that mean they suspect an industrial polluter (like Dupont) and they don't want the testing bought off? Or am I just paranoid?

X's 2! That was my first thought as well. Why would we send anything off when between UT and Vanderbilt we should have the vets in place to check into stuff like that. Not to mention the TWRA and all there experts they give government funds to so they can " do research "

Plus there is the Ellington Agricultural Center that does free necropsies. True these are wild ducks but the property owner owns domestic ducks that a duck disease/poisoning could threaten. There is also an avian specialist who works with the Nashville Zoo.

The 2014 Spring hatching season is officially over for me! My last chick just hatched about an hour ago! For this hatch we ended up with 9 chicks out of 13 eggs which is not bad to shipped eggs! I the last four months we have hatched over 100 chicks! Now it is time to start choosing my future breeders and sell the others! I have acquired some wonderful blood lines this year and I am so excited to see how they mature and what kind of chicks they produce!
Time has fllied by I love your birds
