The Middle Tennessee Thread

The feed store we use here in Manchester (Manchester Farm Center) has chicks coming next month. They gave me a list of what they have coming, if I can find it. I do remember they have California Whites, Ameraucana (Easter Eggers), Silver Laced Wyandottes, Danish Brown Leghorns, RIR, BR (I think), and a few others coming. When I find the list, I'll update with the dates each breed is coming.

I'm in Marshall county and they had chicks already last week. Ducks and geese too. I don't think our TSC has any yet.
I checked with the Manchester TSC when I was up there this weekend, they aren't getting theirs in till early/mid March. The girl I spoke to didn't know what all they had coming, though. Question for y'all. We've finally decided to get some turkeys this year. Never really messed with them aside from helping some family process theirs. We're only wanting a handful to start off with, what would be the best choice for novices? Heritage or Broad Breasted?

We chose heritage. Depend on exactly what your purposes are for them. If you want some in Spring to be ready by fall, go with broad breasted.

We will have hatching eggs and poults available soon and I'm always interested in trades.
We have Narragansett and Sweet grass. I have a royal palm female, but she will be covered by a male the other two kinds.
Porters isn't shipping much this year. If you keep chickens well, try really stay away from each other and you MUST work then early. Blackhead must be around here. Mine have gotten it last year and this before figured it out. never had turkeys on this property before then. They catch it from chickens who are immune to it.

Our local TSC always has hybrid layer pullets, assorted straight run bantams, meat birds, and a bin of a straight run "featured breed" that could be just about anything and is sometimes mislabeled. True story, I once saw their featured breed was "golden comets"... And yes, nothing but males left.

Got this off Dickson CO CO-OP FB page. Might want to see if the coop in your area has something similar.

Do let me know about rural king... looking for Easter Eggers and they are useless when you call. That is an hour drive for me one way.

I wonder what hatchery they use... The Manchester Feed Center is getting theirs from Estes.

The place I'm going has EEs pretty much every week. They call them "Ameraucanas" but of course they have the green legs and random plumage. Every one I've gotten has produced well, though -- blue shelled eggs in large to jumbo. Pickup is at Bonnie's Barnyard in Arrington if that's closer for you.

You can find them on Facebook under The Poultry House (they put a stock list there every week during their season). The list for this week is something like 10 breeds long and they are hatched locally, not shipped. NPIP.

And sexed. I'm not into sending young males to freezer camp...
