Just candled today... day 14... 10th is lockdown and the 13th is day 21.

Carol just a FYI I got a pretty good flashlight from Lowes it was a taskforce that is 150 lumens and my son fitted it with the top part of a water bottle covered it in electrical tape then taped it to the flashlight and it fits the eggs perfectly!!! We even got a video of the little chickadee moving around in there and it was pretty clear!!!

Here is a candling link if you haven't found one already https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=261876&p=1

My offer of Barred Rock eggs are still on the table if you want more (they would either be blue or black but all barred)

And let me know if you end up with too many Ameraucanas! or in the spring you could sell me some hatching eggs

Good luck!

Thanks for the idea for a candler - and the link. I would love some barred rock eggs - but I've already ordered enough eggs to completely fill the bator this time. I really want a BR, though - so the next time I run the incubator, I'll give you a call.

I'm really excited about your hatch. So - next Tuesday would be the beginning of the hatch? I can't wait to hear how it goes. Takes lots of pics!

I think they will be mostly done by then. Once they go into lockdown they can start hatching anytime and are usually done by 21 days. Some go longer. I have read people leave them till day 25 or 27 sometimes. i don't know why or how they know they are still good but they said they hatched.

I will post pics. I am looking for a webcam cuz my son informed me I could record the whole thing that way on my computer and watch it anytime. I can't be there the whole hatch so a video would be great... the FF would even be better

Right now I am just waiting...

Had two muscovy ducks hatch off yesterday! Not for sure how many, they won't bring them out of the dog igloo . Proably best for them to be in there anyway. Another hen left her nest after it got waterlogged. Sure didn't think that would happen this time of year!
My parakeet momma has 5 babies. I hope she keeps them warm enough. They are in a big outside flight. I didn't figure I would have to bring them in this early. I've got brooder lights on the young chicks. Glad it cooled down but am ready for the rain and damp to go away.

Well the story on my oeg mottled is had 14 eggs to start and all hatched but 3 and one was dead out of the hatch so anyway got 3 that I dont think is going to hatch so when you get 10 out of 14 that is pretty good even when it was a setting hatch and not in the bator......... thanks for all the great advice from the byc folks I recieved

WOW...We nearly have our own hatching thread

(Did I say that already)

My husband was all happy about my eggs and getting to see them move when I candled them. Then I informed him they still may not all hatch and that some may die trying to hatch, he was bummed

and could not understand why we can not help during the hatch

It is a good thing we can't watch them all hatch, far too tempting to intervene.

Good Luck everyone, PULLETS, PULLETS, PULLETS, GO PULLETS!!!!

I told my DH the same he just waits till I leave then intervenes. I can say some live on some die as a chick or teenager. But hoping you have a really good hatch with all pullets.

I'm compulsively tracking my two shipments of chicks.

I have the tracking numbers on an open browser page - and I just keep refreshing it to find out where they are. The USPS just updated that both packages were processed through the Nashville sort facility this morning at 6:10. I wish I could just drive into Nashville and pick them up in person, but surely they're on their way to Franklin by now. Surely they'll arrive today! Keeping my fingers crossed that they'll arrive safely and healthy. And keeping my phone by my side so I'll get the phone call.

I'll post photos when they arrive. Now I'll go check my brooders again to make sure it'll be warm enough. 4 of them will be 3 weeks old and 4 of them will be two days old. So I'll keep them separate for awhile, anyway.
