Hello Cinny I would be happy to build a coop for you, I'm retired and just need a little chicken money. You can contact me, show me some pics of the style of coop that most appeals to you and I'll work something up. I have plenty of before and after pics of my work and references if you need them too.Hey.....like all newbies, my coop is becoming too small. I need a new one. I got this one at the co-op it was an impulse buy, we were there, it was there....done. Now that I know better what I want and need in a coop I don't know where to go. Went online and saw several I liked but the customer reviews were not good, said they were made with cheap wood and didn't last.....then there are the other ones that I like and cost a mere $1500 not including shipping....obviously we could get plans and build one, only we don't have those skills.....and so far getting someone to build us one with good products and the labor we're back up to the $1500 range.
I need one for 6-8 chickens and preferably with a run for days when I can't have them free range......any suggestions?
I know it sounds crazy, but I found a fella on eBay that lives in Monteagle that makes really nice 2-story chicken tractors. After I contacted him through eBay, he even custom-made mine to accomodate large breeds (i.e. custom nest boxes that were larger that stated in the advert..two on each side). I have 8 large breed chickens in mine...move it every two-to-three days (but I also free-range mine for a few hours every day...weather permitting)...it has a wire mesh run underneath w/a chicken wire bottom, and the coop/nest boxes up top w/2 perches and a removable poop board. My only compliant is, it is SO HEAVY I am trying to find a training harness for one of my horses to get THEM to drag it around. (It has wheels, but the run is 4'X8' with a 4'X6' coop...not counting the four nest boxes...pretty stout...) His user name on eBay was ambers_camaro - just a heads-up, you have to go pick-up. I took a pic of mine (see below). Oh, and for an additional $20, he'll add on a free-range door (I didn't do it...and regret it now). This one cost around $350.Hey.....like all newbies, my coop is becoming too small. I need a new one. I got this one at the co-op it was an impulse buy, we were there, it was there....done. I have too many breeds and I am not going to grow out any more EE or Olive Eggers. I will still make the crosses, but just F1's, might keep a few since I like the colors.
I have ten of the Mont Eagle coops- one of the large ones, 1 medium and 8 small for my breeding birds. I have had them about a year and I love them. The large one is pretty heavy for one person to move. He will custom make all kinds of coops for you- even walk-in ones. Search Nashville Craig's List for Mont Eagle coop and you will find him. He isn't good at returning emails so just call and leave a message.
