It's almost like it's neurologic, it doesn't have any swollen painful joints or places on its right leg or wing, it can grasp with it's foot (but not hold on) and it can pull its wing away from you when you tug it out. But ti cannot stand or balance at all, with all the weakness appearing to be on the right side.
honestly, I have raise hundreds, close to a thousand chicks, and I saw this same thing. What I believe is happening is maybe over crowding? And the chicks could have piled up if there was a draft or something, and squished that chick.

I fine using round brooders SO much easier with less accidents.

Also there might be a coccidiosis. Look for blood in poo.

Chad, I think your problem might be something like a constipation thing...
At night, chickens basically shut down. Sometimes they poo a little and when they lay on a floor or nestbox, they seem to hold it, to keep from soiling their soroundings.. i had a cochin hen on eggs for close to 2 weeks, I took her our to drink and eat for a few min..she drank and then let it drop( lol) the first was a big clump, and yoy could see diffrent deposites. Then a few seconds later she did it again.

My point is. I think your pullet could have been holding it in, it might have been tougher, and when trying to release, It might of got stuck or something and pushed harder, releasing her entrails..

Countrypunk, I have them in an oval 100 gal water trough. They are getting a little big for it, but coop is about to be under construction. Just can't really tell if it's an injury or sickness. Have a call in to vet.....

I wasn't aware that coccidiosis would cause neurologic symptoms, thought they would just feel puny and have blood in their poop. What did you do when you had chicks like that? did any of them live?

i have no clue about the neuro thing.but Ivehad chicks that will just flop over or be so week it wabbles.

But I used corrid after seeing bloody poo. It clears it up, if you catch it early, You can save alot of your birds. But it can wipe your brooder out.
Another thing. It might not be neuro. Because sometimes when I have a chick that was low on the pecking order, it doesnt get all the nutrition it needs. And causing it to be lethargix, lay on its side and pant or cheap.. but most cages its too late when they are limp and laying the side. I try to save them but only had a few live. I would post in the baby chick forum to get more opinions though. Im not an expert. Nor a vet.

Well I have a little hope this morning... it is still alert and peeping very loudly, drank when I offered it water and even ate a little on it's own if I propped him up in the corner of the box using the food bowl and holding it a little. Vet said to give dex so I'm trying that.

Hey - if anybody is interested - I've decided to sell a trio of my Swedish Flower Hens. After the yellow jacket incident over the weekend, it looks like it may be awhile before I get those breeding pens built - and I hate for the SFHs to be mixing with my layer flock - just seems wrong.

I only have two separation pens - and I'm putting my legbars and rhodebars in those pens. However, since I've hatched some SFH chicks - I'll have more coming up but with several months to get the pen situation taken care of. The hens are good layers - and the roo is taking care of business. I think they're beautiful chickens - lots of variety. I've got more eggs in the bator due to hatch Sunday/Monday. Let me know if you're interested. I'll throw in a couple chicks, too - although they won't be sexed.
