Update on Artie - Father in law came over and took a look for me. He says that her crop is hard. ( I made him feel two other chickens for a comparison, much to their dismay) From what I've read I isolate her, give a dropper of mineral oil and make sure she has plenty of water. No food for 12-24 hours. Does this sound right?

Troyerchicks, I would check her crop first thing in the morning. Should be flat and empty, and not hard and full . . . mineral oil is a good first attempt at curing a hard impacted crop. Please keep us posted. . .

OOps didn't mean to load two of the same one.

Troyerchicks, when "Artemis" had an impacted crop last April, we mixed chick starter with water until soupy and put it next to her water. We fed her olive oil in an eye dropper. By the third day Artemis was sucking down the olive oil. I like to think it tasted decent and she understood we were trying to help her. Before and after an oil treatment we massaged her crop. She didn't like being picked up, but REALLY liked the massage! She chugged the apple cider vinegar water and ignored the plain water. We kept her on the back porch for around two weeks. My Chicken Hugger (middle child, daughter age 11 then) was chief chicken doctor and massage therapist. Artemis was treated before school, after school, and before dinner.

The funniest incident was when I got the call to pick up the Easter eggs we had ordered. "I'll be over as soon as I get done massaging my sick chicken..." The caller was just rolling. Then I walked in the building to a chorus of "Did you rub your chicken real good?"

Here's hoping your Artie gets better very soon!

Thank you everyone! Artie is doing better. She no longer looks half asleep - instead she's busy giving me the evil eye because I won't let her outside. She really is giving me the "what-for" too. Good thing I don't understand chickenese or I'd have put her in a corner somewhere.
She's still not quite bushy tailed though. I guess it will just take some time?

On a side note I was able to walk by the chicks in TSC without being tempted to buy. I feel like I'm making real progress here.
