Thanks for the replies!I thought Easter eggers were just a nick name for the Ameraucana.I did not know they are a different breed.Are mallards a good breed of duck?Can you guys recommend any other good breeds of ducks?Thanks!

EE are not a breed. They are crosses and will not breed true, which is a requirement of a breed to breed true. Lots of people think they are a breed and that EE are a nickname of Ameraucanas. Part of that problem is from the hatcheries calling EE Ameraucanas. Ameraucanas are the only breed of chicken were the culls are called a different name too. None SOP Ameraucanas are EE. You don't find none SOP Marans called something else.

It really muddies things when efforts are made to produce EEs that resemble Ameraucanas and especially when they are blatantly misrepresented. Mine all have beards and pea combs, for example, but their legs are greenish rather than pure slate and the feathers aren't the standard colors of true Ameraucanas. It's usually obvious when you know what to look for. I knew before buying mine and when he advertised last year, I noticed that he'd changed the label to EE. Most folks are just looking for color in their egg basket when they buy EEs and they work perfectly well for that so it makes more sense to call them what they are.

Do you have an extra exchequer roo too?  I have 1 pullet from that cross, if you have an extra roo I will work on them and see what we can get.

I don't have any grown, I have hatched 5 chicks so far this year to check fertility and with my luck all of them will be roos. I can et you one of them if you would like.

There is really good info. about this on a thread here on BYC, if you read the posts you'll understand it all better, I did.
Mostly ppl have taken pure Ameraucana & crossed them w/ everything under the sun so they get colored egg layers that are half Ameraucana & half whatever, those are all EE birds. Some of them end up looking just like the Ame. parent & ppl will innocently or not pass them off as pure so it gets confusing. Plus lost of ppl really have no idea the difference so more confusion. I got my first EE by accident, just an extra pullet I bought from a kid when I was buying a broody hen. I didn't look like any chicken I'd ever sean b/f & I actually named her Ugly, then she started laying lovely mint green eggs, one every day for 6 months. She was my best layer last yr as a pullet, now she is a big fluffy hen and the first to start laying again this year.

Ducklings are the messiest ever. They are fun though. The eggs are the best for baking.
The diff. breeds are all very diff. some can fly.

x2 I too have EEs and when I first purchased some many, many years ago they were sold as Ameraucanas. In doing some research I quickly discovered mine were EEs. I do not know if people intentionally misrepresent or if they do not know any better but think its a combination of both. I find most of my EEs are very good layers of large eggs in varying shades of blue, green, brown or pink. Mine have pea combs, beards & muffs and some even have slate legs instead of the usual willow but their feathering colors are not true standard (some are close). I have never owned a true Ameraucana but maybe some day I will.

The insurance adjuster made it to the house today. Half my siding has to be replaced,the front half of the roof gets new shingles, around 250 ft of new fence, 2 new columns for the front porch, minor brick repair, some new screens & 1 window. Tree removal & finally he doesn't know if the coop will be covered. :-( I'm not gonna be happy if its not but I will rebuild somehow. Sadly JW didn't make it I think he had internal injuries. He started passing blood Friday. Wasn't real active kinda lethargic, I couldnt stand to let him suffer so i put him down. Total losses now are 4 birds more than half my birds & the coop. Sometimes your the bug sometimes your the windshield.

I'm sorry you lost JW. I know it is hard to take that action but it is one of great compassion.

I hope the insurance ppl decide your way on replacement for the coop etc.
