I have a question for the more experienced chicken owners. I have a wonderful rooster - he's so sweet - but whenever he mounts my brown cochin, another hen pecks HER terribly while he's doing his thing. So, not only is he holding onto her neck, but Butter Bean is grabbing her as well. He seems to really like Brownie a lot - what's going on?

are you sure Butter Bean is a hen? I have heard of roosters doing that..but I have not seen or heard of a hen doing that....and it is a hen it could be a dominate hen...maybe even more dominate than the rooster. Have you ever seen the rooster mount butter bean?

Butter Bean is a hen - she has laid eggs and he has mounted her before that I've seen. Its really bizarre to watch - it seems like she's jealous or something.

im not as experienced as most on here but i have seen a few of my hens do the same.. when i see this it is usually when i put a new hen into the flock the original hens will peck when the roo gets her down

Pallets I have, but I might need more. I want some of those boxes from Johnson Elec in Springfield... just can't get anyone to answer the phone.

If I could get those I would be set for coops. Then I would just have to build runs. They would make life really easy. I could knock out several pens a day with those boxes. If anyone has any info on how to get through to someone there I would appreciate it. I have a first name of the guys to call..... but the directory needs a last name to give me an extension.

Oh just choose any extension. Do you know how many digits the extensions are? Some are 3, some are 4 and some are 5. Choose 3 numbers randomly and punch them in. If it doesn't connect add another number. If it doesn't connect add the 5th number. It may say no such number and let you start over. You can also just try punching 0 to get the switchboard. Just because they don't give that out as an option doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

So you finally get a random person and let them know who you are looking for.

Thanks, Maybe that's what it is. I just reintroduced her back into the flock this week with her new baby. It was just odd . . .

Hey everybody my sweet little silkie just went broody for the first time! I would love to let her hatch out some eggs but currently we have no rooster. If anyone has any fertile bantam eggs for sale please PM me with breed and price. Just looking for about 6 I think. Thanks. Also include your location.

Why do people ask to purchase birds and then they write that they are a large family and can't afford much? Or they want to resell so can't pay much as their profit needs to be bigger? OR I want to breed your birds and sell offspring next year and then tout your birds as their many years of work?

AAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I am done selling anything. I am going to eat every darn thing I hatch that I don't like and will not sell anymore eggs...I will simply boil them and feed them to the dogs.

Thank you for listening to me vent. Those of you that have eggs or birds coming...those purchases/verbal promises will be honored and after that I am done.

Emmalynn I'm sorry to hear that you've had such negative experiences selling birds and eggs.

Also disappointed you've decided to stop selling eggs..I'm sure my silkie would love to hatch some. ;)

Just for the record, I have no sob stories to offer. If anyone is interested in selling some eggs I'll either like your price or not. I don't intend to resell or breed but may have to rehome little roos.

Don't want anyone to think emmalynn's post had anything to do with mine or was a response my post. Just very unfortunate timing for me.

Good gracious no.

My post had nothing to do with yours. You are definitely not one of the idiots I have spoken to recently.

It was a generalization of many Craigslist and private contact sell people emails and not all of those are the ones I want to strangle....just the unique, won't stop emailing, idiots. I was offered $25 for one of my show Sebastopol geese and then he was mad when I POLITELY turned him down. Got somewhat rude and ugly to me. I don't even sell day olds for that!
