The Middle Tennessee Thread

Donna sent the SOS text to me...because I'm the crazy lady that has taken 2 different chickens to the vet. Oh well. There is a list at UCAN (Urban Chicken Advocates of Nashville) here...http://ucannashville.org/node/12

I have been to 2 different vets and I felt I had the better experience at Airport Animal Clinic, Dr. Mike Corwin. https://plus.google.com/11330394003...hl=en#113303940036270250657/about?gl=us&hl=en
It is in Nashville near Briley & Murfreesboro Road...it's very near Genesco (if you know where that is).
Good Luck!!!
Thanks. I'll let you know what happens.

Donna! I have already read about your new breeds!!!! AAAAHHHHH! I had to look most of them up and I kept bugging David to look at the pictures (he is trying to watch football...not chickens). I finally just said...I just need to go to Donna's and figure out what I want this spring. I mean, it's just not fair that my 1/4 acre "farm" is so tiny and the rules so strict!!! ....mmmm....how many can I get away with???

Cinny, I just read back on this thread to find out what was going on with your chicken. Is she laying? Has she ever laid? I had a 9 mo old BLRW that had never laid...she was eating the layer feed with the rest of the flock...she began limping...I waited to see if she was just injured, but it just kept getting worse so I took her to the vet (Airport Animal Clinic). Evidently the high calcium caused her to develop gout. This led to tendenitis...severe tendenitis. I treated her for a week, but had to cull her...I would have to take her out of the coop in the morning and put her back in at night :( Other than feeding her separately a lower calcium feed (which is impossible) there was nothing much that I could do.

That may be it....she's like 6-8 months old and never laid an egg, I thought it was just because of the weather since I got another chicken the same time and she's never laid either. She never limped though, she'd try to walk, fall backwards and use her wing to try and get upright but the legs went everywhere. I finally brought her in because they were starting to peck at her and she's laid in the crate ever since.....still eats, drinks and poops, just won't walk.
I'm taking her to the Airport Animal Clinic on Monday.....hope I don't have to cull her because I don't know how and not sure I could if I did.....LOL.....yes, I'm a total wimp.

Hi everyone, I just was getting caught up here after days of only reading on the NYDH (8,000 posts was all I could manage!)

I'll spare you the details but lets just say my 1st Bator hatch was pretty much an epic Murphy's Law distaster
but on the good side I have 2 live chicks in the brooder now:

Chick "B" (Still working on a name that starts w/ B)
Maran over Ameraucana it appears b/c I think I see little facial fuzzies already.
He (actually acting like a Roo already, at 48hrs old! & had micro comb dots above beack on hatching) is a lovely sliver/grey, darker on back lighter on tummy.

Chick "K"
pure Maran
while still wet she (hoping) was the oddest color patern exactly 1/3 down the middle of body is grey, each 1/3 on the sides looked lemon/gold wet, yellow fluffed.

Well HAPPY NEW YEAR 2013 Middle TN !!

& Donna, WOW on the new breeds, you'll have to post tons of pictures :)
Also I'm very curious how the MF Leghorns lay --
I'm wanting some Leghorns for my layer flock, was thinking SC Brown, but those MF sure are pretty! <said in a dreamy want more chickens voice ; >
