The Middle Tennessee Thread

Hi-

I am new to the site and trying to figure everything out. My husband and I just moved to Springfield from Fort Bragg, NC. We bought a family farm so now all me need are some animals. We have put in alot of work just trying to get the neglected barn into running condition. All we have left is paint and get the electricity fixed. We also have a small coop, we have a few hens and a rooster, but are looking for several more hens.

Derrick the roo was our first family member to join, he is awaiting his new coop to be built

Hi, I am getting some chicks next week, does anyone know how old they should  be to use nipple waters?

thanks

I started my chicks on a nipple waterer -- it was SO easy! They are drawn to the red base and shiny silver lever and had it figured out within an hour. IMO, it makes much more sense to not wait because older chickens can be resistant to change and their keepers struggle with forcing it for fear that their chickens might be stupid or stubborn enough to cause themselves harm if they take away other drinking options.

Welcome! You'll have no trouble getting more chickens when you're ready -- lots of enablers here.

DH went up the hill to collect eggs for me before dark in the ice cold mist. Brought me back these: yep, those are NOT eggs, those are 7 newborn pot belly piglets... ok & 4 eggs, one of which was cracked, but we'll not complain about that ; > Hope everyone has a good Valentines tomorrow
OOOOOHHHH! Must have piglet!!! Where are you located?

Thank you BK I finally got some knobs on the plexi and fired it up, now we just wait
Looks fantastic! I can't wait to see how well t works. Mine will look right at home, very nice piece of furniture. You do very nice work. I can not believe how smooth the finish is and how beautifully the joints are put together. Guys I have had my hands on this and I have encouraged him to market these! I have already put in my purchase order!! :bow

and to the Middle TN thread. I am not too far from you.... the farm is in Ashland City/Nashville area. I am hatching chicks almost daily if you need some. I don't have many big birds available but I could find a few barred rocks and 2 Super Blue Egg layers and an Olive Egger.

I have only hatched 1 so far but... I think I may hatch more just because! The 1 I have is a roo (pretty sure) but boy for just 2 weeks he is big and the feathering is perfect!! So may be a good source!
